Assignment Area(s): Teacher Librarian / Preparation Teacher

Salary Range: $59,711 to $109,520 (range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement)

Effective Date: Immediately, until not later than March 12, 2025

Please Note: If we have no qualified applicants, we are willing to consider applicants who do not possess the qualifications for this assignment but who are willing to undertake a program of professional study to become fully qualified as per the criteria set out in this posting. There will also be required in-service for the successful candidate to complete.

Required Abilities, Qualifications and Experience:

  1. Master's of Education in Teacher-Librarianship, Master Library and Information Studies (MUS) or Diploma in Teacher-Librarianship and successful experience as a Teacher-Librarian.
  2. Experience and/or willingness to learn the skills necessary to plan, implement, and oversee the development of a school-wide program for Media & Technology, Maker Space, and STEM in our school library.
  3. Demonstrated ability and experience in collaborating with teachers to improve instructional practice in literacy.
  4. Ability to manage a resource collection using curricular and student interests to identify and obtain library materials, organize, and maintain the library collection to promote independent reading and lifelong learning.
  5. Collaboration skills in order to support classroom teachers in fostering independent learners by teaching research, information literacy, technology, communication, and critical thinking skills.
  6. Demonstrated strong interest in, knowledge and understanding of literature and be able to share a passion for books and learning with students.
  7. Familiarity with a wide variety of literacy approaches, strategies, and methods of assessment.
  8. Demonstrated excellent listening, speaking, presentation, and writing skills.
  9. Ability to maintain and troubleshoot the library computers, printers, and server.
  10. Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to implement teaching practices that align with the Professional Standards for BC Educators.
  11. Extensive academic training, professional preparation, and qualifications in teaching in all areas of this assignment.
  12. Knowledge of, and demonstrated application of the Ministry of Education's current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as applied to this assignment.
  13. Successful experience teaching K to 5 and strong understanding of best teaching practices at the elementary level.
  14. Ability to successfully manage a library budget.
  15. Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in addressing the wide range of academic, social, emotional and behavioral needs of children.
  16. Demonstrated ability and proven experience of excellent classroom management.
  17. Knowledge of and commitment to library and school-wide initiatives.
  18. Thorough knowledge of and demonstrated application of the principles of learning.
  19. Commitment to becoming involved and positively contributing to the culture of the school.
  20. Ability to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills with students, staff, and parents.
  21. Demonstrated ability to apply current brain-based strategies as they relate to learning, self-regulation, mindful behavior, and problem-solving.
  22. Demonstrated willingness to work collaboratively as part of a team to support student success.
  23. Ongoing commitment to professional development.
  24. Demonstrated willingness to implement the goals and strategies of the school growth plan.
