Position Details
The University of Lethbridge Information Technology Services department is seeking applications for the position of Systems Analyst. This is a full-time, continuing position located at our Lethbridge campus. Preference will be given to candidates who will work full-time at the Lethbridge campus; however, some hybrid work arrangements for Alberta-based candidates may be arranged.
Reporting to the Manager, Infrastructure, the Systems Analyst is a capable and versatile professional with a broad set of technical capabilities and will primarily be responsible for administering a large Microsoft 365 environment, Microsoft Exchange, and other email services, with shared administration of Microsoft Azure and Microsoft Active Directory. This includes key Microsoft 365 services such as Entra ID, Exchange Online and Server, SharePoint Online, Teams, and all other services as well.
Additionally, automation plays a significant part in this environment. The Systems Analyst has strong judgment to automate tasks as necessary, can design and implement appropriate solutions using PowerShell and REST APIs, maintains and monitors existing solutions, and is committed to strengthening the organization’s security posture by implementing and adhering to security best practices.
Primary Responsibilities Include
- Providing Tier 2 support for end-users across all Microsoft 365 services
- Administering Microsoft Exchange Online and Server, in addition to other email services with expertise in email standards and practices
- Assisting with other colleagues’ or departments’ projects that integrate with Microsoft 365 or email services, acting as a subject matter expert to help advise and design appropriate solutions or integrations
- Supporting teaching and learning through various technologies such as Microsoft Teams
- Keeping apprised of Microsoft’s continuous development in these services, taking actions as necessary to prepare the organization for any impacting changes
- Automating large-scale or repetitive tasks using object-oriented PowerShell and REST APIs in a continuous integration environment
Additional Responsibilities
- Supplemental Microsoft Azure and Microsoft Active Directory administration
- Writing and publishing end-user documentation for self-service help where appropriate
- Supplemental administration of identity management systems, such as Microsoft Identity Manager
- Representing the University by regularly collaborating with peers at other institutions and through provincial/national/collaborative bodies
This position plays a key role in collaborating and coordinating with other departments and colleagues including those in senior leadership positions, external vendors, and the rest of the IT Services team to ensure these services are properly supported, maintained, and enhanced. Numerous University audiences rely on these critical services, and therefore a high degree of planning, coordination, and attention to detail is required to ensure business continuity. Strong organization, written and verbal communication skills are essential.
The University of Lethbridge is undertaking a job classification and compensation review for Administrative Professional Officer (APO) positions. As such, the salary range currently assigned for this position may be adjusted as a result of this project.
The successful candidate will be required to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
Position Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent
- Several years of related work experience
- Several years of experience administering Microsoft 365
- Demonstrated ability to administer email servers such as Microsoft Exchange
- Proven ability with object-oriented programming using PowerShell or other languages
- Background in Windows Server and Active Directory administration is an asset
- Skilled in troubleshooting a wide variety of application issues
- Knowledge and experience with service management processes such as incident management, service request management, change management, etc.
- Professional designations related to systems administration are an asset
Starting Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE): $63,255.50 - $79,575.80 annually
Full Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE): $63,255.50 - $95,896.11 annually (APO - Grade 3)
