Job Description: Systems Analyst

Role and Responsibilities

The systems analysis function plays a key role in our client’s production process. The Systems Analyst applies analytical, technical, and organizational skills to facilitate, influence, and contribute to the identification, design, and implementation of business and systems solutions.

The Systems Analyst is the primary liaison between our client’s business stakeholders—including business leaders, the business community, end-users, external partners, and subject matter experts—and the Production department as it relates to managing project scope and all project requirements throughout the entire lifecycle of a project.

The Systems Analyst is responsible for:

  1. Identifying end-user business needs and hidden market opportunities.
  2. Proactively conducting interviews with all external and internal project stakeholders to elicit and formulate business, functional, non-functional, technical, implementation and other requirements.
  3. Documenting requirements in an organized, traceable manner.
  4. Managing and communicating requirements to all project stakeholders throughout the project life cycle.
  5. Actively defining and managing all change management and change control activities pertinent to project scope and requirements.
  6. Contributing to and assisting with test planning and leading user acceptance testing.

Required Skills

  1. Demonstrated practical knowledge and experience in all aspects of business and system analysis.
  2. Technical competencies required to effectively elicit and document software and web development requirements.
  3. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate with individuals at various levels within an organization, including external clients in leadership positions.
  4. Outstanding critical thinking, questioning, and active listening skills, and superior attention to detail.
  5. Exceptional time management skills needed to work on multiple projects and tasks simultaneously, while completing work within allocated time frames.
  6. Expert level user in the following Microsoft applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Project.
  7. Working knowledge of web technologies, HCI, information architecture, and user-centered design.

Required experience - MANDATORY

  1. A university degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent.
  2. Minimum 5 years of recent working experience as a full-time Systems Analyst for complex web and software development projects.
  3. Minimum 3 years of previous working experience as a software or web developer using ASP.NET, HTML, CSS, jQuery, JavaScript, MS SQL, etc.

Nice to have

  1. A CBAP designation (Certified Business Analysis Professional) is a definite asset.
