The Systems Administrator is responsible for the effective design, provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems, hardware, software, security, networking, and storage solutions. The role also acts as a point of escalation for the Service Desk. This role reports to the Manager, IT Operations.
CPA Alberta has offices in Calgary and Edmonton and provides hybrid Telecommuting opportunities (working from home a maximum of 3 days a week).

What You Bring
- Post-secondary education in computer programs, information systems, system administration technical support, and network administration.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with Servers, networks, storage, databases, report and SOP writing, and software applications.
- Critical thinking, and a meticulous approach to troubleshooting issues.
- Microsoft / Azure / Network / Security / Other vendor certifications.
What You Will Be Doing
Infrastructure Management
- Serves as a technical expert in the design, installation, configuration, and maintenance of IT infrastructure including data centers, server systems, network devices, storage systems, and mission-critical or highly available systems and services.
- Plan and execute necessary hardware and software upgrades to support system growth and stability.
- Administer and optimize Network Appliances, Firewalls, Backups, Azure, VMware and Linux environments.
- Responsible for the monitoring of system health and utilization.
- Support the infrastructure after hours and on weekends.
Network and Security
- Develop, document, communicate, and enforce network security policies.
- Ensure that systems and services are deployed in alignment with security best practices.
- Play a key role in resolving any business continuity or cyber security incidents.
Incident and Vendor Management
- Responsible for incident escalation to vendors and/or third-party contractors.
- Provide communications to stakeholders during service interruptions or major upgrades.
Automation and Development
- Develop scripts or other means to improve or accelerate automated deployment processes and product delivery.
Research and Innovation
- Research and trial new and emerging technologies which could benefit CPA Alberta.
Disaster Recovery
- Monitor, test, and administer the backups.
- Take part in the planning, creating, and implementing the Disaster Recovery Plan.
Documentation
- Write Standard Operating Procedures and maintain infrastructure documentation and drawings.
