Job Title: System Design Engineer (Gas) - Advanced Nuclear Reactor Project
Location: Remote
Type: Long-Term Contract
Industry: Advanced Nuclear Energy

The System Design Engineer (Gas) will be responsible for designing and analyzing fluid systems in support of advanced nuclear reactor development. The engineer will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to drive system integration, performance, and reliability. Reporting to the System Design Manager, this role encompasses system design, engineering documentation, oversight, and systems engineering functions.


Key Responsibilities
  1. Lead the design and development of gas and fluid systems from conceptual requirements through final design and commissioning.
  2. Conduct technical trade studies and make informed decisions to refine system architecture.
  3. Oversee supplier activities related to the development and fabrication of gas processing, filtration, and monitoring equipment.
  4. Evaluate component designs within the context of complete system integration.
  5. Prepare and review technical specifications, operational narratives, and system documentation.
  6. Identify and resolve plant- and system-level integration challenges.
  7. Support and participate in design reviews and ensure alignment with project requirements.
  8. Develop and manage detailed design packages, including calculations, design reports, drawings, and specifications.
  9. Interface with cross-functional teams to support P&IDs, 3D models, and interface drawings.
  10. Coordinate with mechanical, I&C, civil, and nuclear engineering disciplines to define and meet system performance criteria.
  11. Propose, initiate, and support system development testing and qualification programs.
  12. Provide oversight and analysis during testing and compile comprehensive test reports.

Qualifications & Experience
  1. B.S. in Mechanical, Chemical, Nuclear Engineering, or related field from an accredited university.
  2. 5+ years of relevant experience in mechanical or gas system design.
  3. Strong experience with piping systems and P&ID development.
  4. Demonstrated experience working with suppliers of safety-related equipment.
  5. In-depth understanding of applicable design codes (ASME BPVC, API, etc.).
  6. Familiarity with safety classifications for systems, structures, and components (SSCs).
  7. Knowledge of piping analysis and nuclear quality assurance standards (e.g., ASME NQA-1, AS9100, ISO 9001).
  8. Ability to manage and prioritize competing design constraints and objectives.
  9. Proven ability to work independently with minimal direction.
  10. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  11. Attention to detail and a commitment to technical excellence.
