Internal Job Title : System Administrator

Job Type : Permanent, Full-Time

Job Location : Ottawa, ON

Position Summary

As a System Administrator in our Product Development group, you will be responsible for configuring, virtualizing, managing and maintaining the IT infrastructure and databases of CBN product development architectures and solutions. In this position you will apply your knowledge of Azure Cloud and on-premises infrastructure with hands on configuration, optimization and written automation. The work will enable efficiency of environment creation and tear down for development teams and customer deployment methodology.

Responsibilities

  • System Administration: Install, configure, virtualize, and maintain servers, networks, and other IT infrastructure components. Leverage automation tools and scripting languages to enhance outcomes.
  • Database Administration: Collaborate with DBAs to setup, configure, and maintain database systems as needed to ensure data integrity, security, and performance.
  • Performance Monitoring and Tuning: Monitor system and database performance, identify issues, and optimize performance.
  • Security Management: Implement and manage security measures to protect systems and databases from unauthorized access and threats.
  • Backup and Recovery: Develop and implement backup and recovery plans to ensure data protection and availability.
  • Troubleshooting and Support: Provide technical support for system and database-related issues, including troubleshooting and resolving problems.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for system and database configurations, changes, processes, and procedures.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (KSAs) and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology (or a related field) or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience.
  • Certifications: CompTIA Server+, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) or similar certifications are assets.
  • Knowledge: System administration principles, database management principles, network protocols, security best practices.
  • Soft Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication abilities, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Competencies: Organizational skills, technical independence, proactive approach to identifying and solving issues.
  • Experience: 5-7 years of experience in system administration with database exposure. Must have proven script writing experience.

Technical Environment

  • Hardware: Servers, Storage (SAN / NAS), Switches, Routers, VLAN
  • Networking: Firewalls, VPN
  • Software: Apache, Tomcat
  • SQL and Scripting: SQL, Python, PowerShell, Bash, Ruby
  • Security: Active Directory, Kerberos, LDAP, TLS, Bitlocker, LUKS

Mandatory Requirements

  • Language: Fluency in English (reading, writing, speaking)
  • Physical Demands: Ability to lift / carry up to 25 lbs
  • Security Clearance: Ability to obtain (in a timely manner) and maintain Government of Canada Secret (Level II) clearance
