Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Technical and Communication Services, the System Administrator III is responsible for the day-to-day operation, backup, maintenance, installation, configuration and customer support of the Hospital’s Computer Systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provide frontline support for hardware, network, application software, system interfaces, telephone system, and device management for the core hospital information systems and the office automation network for all in-house and remote clients.
  • Ensure data integrity and system security by overseeing regularly scheduled backup routines, and managing appropriate user and third party access to all hospital computer systems. Maintain a strong understanding of security best practices to safeguard sensitive hospital data.
  • Set-up pre-authorized software, oversee the distribution and installation of new devices, and create and maintain an online inventory of all peripheral devices. This includes tracking items sent out for repair and managing temporary replacement inventory.
  • Liaise with vendors to coordinate all cable additions, removals, and relocations, ensuring installations are completed in a timely manner to minimize disruption to the department. Verify proper connectivity, labelling, and site cleanliness prior to the vendor’s departure from the hospital.
  • Monitor each system daily to ensure proper operation by following daily schedule of procedures and completing the Daily Activity logs.
  • Perform, document, and verify scheduled daily file saves, ensuring proper tape rotation and off-site storage for each computer system managed by Information Technology.
  • Ensure system security by obtaining necessary authorization to add or remove users from system. Maintain security protocols through direct communication with third-party support staff before granting remote access, and by regularly monitoring system activity logs to verify appropriate access.
  • Ensure that documentation pertaining to all hardware, software, and routine operation is kept up-to-date and accessible to all Information Technology staff via the share directory.
  • Provide advanced support to System Administrator I & II, offering technical development, guidance, and mentoring to help advance their skills and knowledge.
  • Commit to ongoing self-development to stay current with new technology trends and system functionality improvements, ensuring expertise aligns with upcoming system upgrades.
  • Prioritize patient safety while performing job duties, functions, or services, ensuring that all tasks are executed with the highest level of care to protect patient well-being.
  • Consider the safety of oneself and co-workers by following safety protocols and practices while performing work, fostering a safe and secure working environment for all.
  • Provide comprehensive support to all users of the hospital information systems by actively monitoring the Help Desk ticketing system, telephone, fax lines, and email to ensure timely and effective resolution of issues.
  • Mentor junior colleagues and contribute to their professional development in Information Technology by providing knowledge transfer on all technical components of the JBH infrastructure, while acting as a technical reference and resource to offer guidance and expertise, enhancing their understanding and skills in IT operations.
  • Demonstrate strong teamwork and customer service skills, assisting junior colleagues to develop these skills.
  • Proactively pursue timely resolution of all issues, maintaining continuous communication with end-users regarding status updates and managing expectations with third-party service personnel. Ensure thorough documentation of each issue in the Clientele Help Desk database, providing valuable information for the next shift and creating a permanent reference for future use.

Qualifications

  • Community College diploma in Computer Studies.
  • Seven years working experience in a large computer installation environment.
  • Microsoft Certification (MCSE, MCSA, MCM, MCITP, MCTS), Cisco Certification (CCNA, CCENT, CCNP, CCIE), VMware certification (VCA, VCP, VCAP), Citrix Certification (CCA, CCAA, CCEE) is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of operating system design, database management techniques, electronic communications, and general internetworking.
  • Proficient understanding of a P.C. and related hardware, networks, servers, and software, with an emphasis on Microsoft and Meditech environments, as well as Exchange mail client.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Strong planning, analytical, and interpretative skills.
  • Excellent troubleshooting abilities, with a keen attention to detail in resolving technical issues.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact patiently and effectively with a diverse range of employees.
  • Flexibility to work shifts and be on-call as required.
  • Experience in a Healthcare Facility is preferred.
