NATURE OF WORK:

This position performs technical work in the engineering field. This position reports to the Supervisor of Geomatics Services.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Use standard surveying instruments such as GPS, transits, levels, and electronic total stations to establish horizontal and vertical control for the construction and maintenance of infrastructure projects.
  2. Use survey software to download, process and manage survey data.
  3. Write detailed field notes on instrument work performed.
  4. Draw simple survey plans and perform a variety of other semi-skilled drafting tasks.
  5. Assist in completing calculations to determine grades, curves, coordinates or cross-section profiles.
  6. Direct and manage projects when the Geomatics Tech. is absent or unavailable.
  7. Use common laboring tools such as pick, shovel, axe, during performance of surveying tasks.
  8. Follow all rules and regulations as set out in the Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act and the City of Regina Occupational Health and Safety Manual.
  9. Perform related work as required.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Two (2) years experience in a municipal engineering environment. Consideration will be given to applicants who possess Senior Matriculation and the prerequisites required to enter a post-secondary Geomatics program and a minimum of two (2) years related surveying experience in a municipal engineering environment.
  2. Knowledge of the elementary principles and practices and equipment involved in surveying.
  3. Knowledge of mathematics and trigonometry as applied to municipal surveys.
  4. Skill in the use and care of surveying equipment.
  5. Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions.
  6. Ability to interpret engineering plans and specifications.
  7. Ability to work outdoors, if necessary, for extended periods of time and under unfavorable weather conditions as required by work assignments.
  8. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations as set out in the section or department to which assigned.
  9. Knowledge of the general rules and regulations of the Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  10. Ability to follow all safety regulations as set out in the sections or department to which assigned.

WORKING / OTHER CONDITIONS:

  1. Must possess a valid driver's license.
