How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team:

The Supervisor, Construction Projects is responsible for providing field expertise and professional leadership throughout the full project lifecycle of assigned construction projects. This includes providing input on designs and detailed construction estimates while supervising multiple work crews and contractors.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Oversees Construction Services projects from early concept to the final stages of implementation and project closeout.
  • Schedules the implementation of construction projects as assigned.
  • Determines and ensures project equipment, material and documentation needs are acquired.
  • Conducts logistical meetings with internal and external project partners.
  • Coordinates on-site scheduling with other TRCA crews (I.e., survey, forestry) or contractors to prepare site for construction activities.
  • Leads active construction:
    • Coordinates on-site scheduling with survey crew to complete updated site layout/project deficiencies.
    • Prepares and maintains concise records associated with project implementation and/or contracts as required.
    • Provides weekly project updates to both the project management and construction services team, providing recommendations to any ongoing challenges.
    • Ensures that construction works are completed as per approved detailed design drawings.
    • Reviews variance reports and daily work reports throughout various stages of the project, monitoring budget costs, purchase orders, etc.
    • Ensures all on-site health and safety documents, inspections, hazard assessments, training are completed in the appropriate timeframe.
  • Serves as a technical subject matter expert for onsite construction management.
  • Monitors budget and timeline and develops strategies to mitigate any variances to the project plan.
  • Leads a team in daily/weekly duties within a business unit/division or at a site, delegating tasks and supporting the development of the people on the team.
  • Leads a team of staff and ensures that team members understand expectations; communicates schedule, tasks and discusses priorities of items.
  • Communicates with team members regularly to assess workload and status of activities, amends work and reassigns staff as needed to direct workflow and accommodate for any situational circumstances.
  • Supports onboarding and provides on-the-job training and support as needed for individuals; also identifies any gaps in or potential improvement areas for training, development, process, resources, or procedures.
  • Manages employee performance and individual team performance.
  • Ensures resources are in place to manage day-to-day workload, providing immediate supervisors with recommendations for budget/resource requirements to meet future workload and project needs.
  • Ensures staff/volunteers/contractors, as applicable, comply with health & safety policies, and other TRCA policies, as applicable in various work environments.

What will you need to succeed:

Education (degree/diploma/certifications/licenses)

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree Resource/Environmental/ Construction Management or a related field or equivalent experience.

Experience

  • 4+ years of progressive experience in construction.
  • 1+ years of progressive managerial, supervisory or project management experience.

Knowledge/Skill/Ability - Competencies

  • Familiar with current construction and restoration best practices.
  • Sound understanding of logistics management of heavy equipment.
  • Proficiency in the operation, maintenance and repair of vehicles/equipment and facilities.
  • Advanced mathematical abilities (e.g., ratios, rates, percentages, basic geometry).
  • Demonstrates responsiveness to internal and external customer requests and needs.
  • Ability to use critical thinking to evaluate problems, gather information, understand causes, and identify best possible solutions.
  • Knowledge of best management practices, and up-to-date knowledge of mitigation and controls, as well as safe work procedures.
  • Strong budget management and cost control skills; able to address variances and manage ongoing risks while managing multiple deadlines/work processes.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act, related Regulations and legislation.
