Teck is looking for an experienced Superintendent, Utilities to join our team at our Trail Operations, one of the world's largest fully integrated zinc and lead smelting and refining complexes. Reporting to the Business Area Manager, Maintenance Support, the Superintendent, Utilities manages the Trail Operations utilities infrastructure to the point of Business Area utilization. Duties include operation, administration and maintenance of power distribution, water systems, natural gas distribution, nitrogen/oxygen distribution, steam distribution, sewer systems, and elevators. Specific duties also include the administration of the operation associated with power transmission assets. The incumbent holds the Elevator License providing support and leadership to Trail Operations in complying with the B.C. Safety Standards Act.

Responsibilities:

  1. Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures.
  2. Ensure utility assets are efficiently installed, maintained, and operated in accordance with all applicable regulatory requirements and Teck Trail Operations standards/needs by effectively coordinating, planning, scheduling, and directing trades personnel, Group Leaders, contractors, consultants, suppliers, and equipment.
  3. Effectively communicate with all Trail Operation business units and stakeholders regarding relevant issues with respect to the Trail Operations utility assets.
  4. Develop and implement policy and procedures with respect to utility assets, including the administration of overhead power line and excavation procedures.
  5. Maintain business relationships with regulators, gas utility, power utility, phone utility, and local municipalities.
  6. Ensure all utility work is authorized and prioritized to meet Trail Operations business needs.
  7. Continuously improve utility asset availability and reliability through application of loss control principles.
  8. Control costs by preparing and managing the utility budget.
  9. Maintain asset information including underground utility drawings.
  10. Maintain and communicate to Trail Operation business units, information regarding asset ownership boundaries and responsibilities.
  11. Ensure the utility assets meet the long-term objectives of Trail Operations by maintaining long term (typically 5 year) asset plans.
  12. Participate in assessing area requirements and in evaluating staff, tradespeople and apprentices.
  13. Use performance management principles to optimize performance of personnel.
  14. Monitor and analyze advancements in the incumbent's area of expertise, assessing their impact on Trail Operations.

Qualifications:

  1. Minimum 8 years experience in operations (refining, smelting, processing) is required.
  2. Red Seal certification, bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent is required.
  3. Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience required.
  4. Advanced knowledge of Teck’s Reliability and Maintenance manual with the demonstrated ability to understand fundamental concepts.
  5. Working knowledge of JDE & material procurement systems.
  6. Ability to provide leadership to a diverse team including union members.
  7. Ability to strategically plan long term trade resource planning requirements aligned to the external change in technology.
  8. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the demonstrated ability to influence others, build relationships and work with cross-functional teams.
  9. Strong problem solving, organizational, prioritization and interpersonal skills.

Salary Range: $135,000 - $167,000
The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.

Please note this role does require the successful candidate to live within 100KM of Trail, British Columbia. Relocation assistance will be offered however there is no camp or company housing.
