Position and Responsibilities

  • Focus includes conventional safety management activities such as accident/incident investigation & corrective actions as well as advancing a safety culture and behaviours consistent with world class safety management including employee engagement and leadership field presence.
  • Plan, lead and coordinate the activities of the Port Hope Technical Services department to ensure that technical resources can deliver safe and reliable operations.
  • Provide technical assistance to technologists as they perform hands-on equipment set up, troubleshooting and implementation of equipment and process improvements.
  • Participate, plan and lead continuous improvement and manufacturing excellence initiatives to improve quality, throughput, efficiency, on-time deliveries and to reduce costs.
  • Support the reliability culture at the site by being an active member of the Asset Management and Reliability group and implementing processes to improve the reliability of all site assets and efficiency of maintenance resource usage.
  • Act as the Technical Design Authority confirming the proper use of the design process with the appropriate Subject Matter Expert involvement in facility design.
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with stakeholders and other departments to achieve Safety, Environmental protection and Product Quality objectives.
  • Provide leadership, development and direction to Technical Leads and work to improve performance of the organization through coaching, skill development and effective performance appraisal.
  • Provide data driven analysis and problem solving to address identified opportunities.
  • Contribute technical input to the identification and execution of Capital equipment upgrades and new installations.
  • Ownership of process engineering and maintenance related documentation.
  • Create annual departmental budgets and execute spending within that budget.
  • Oversight of work groups that operate on a three shift, 5 day schedule.

Education and Qualifications

Requirements of the position:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technologist Diploma
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Proven leadership experience in manufacturing (3+ years)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills that support effective communication and relationship building to enable of all levels of the organization.
  • Strong organizational and self-managing skills to prioritize and demonstrate accountability.
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office, Excel, Word, Sharepoint, and Powerpoint.

Assets:

  • Experience in Lean / Six Sigma methodologies
  • Knowledge of Causal Analysis Tools
  • Familiarity with Quality Systems such as CSA N285, N299, ISO9000, NQA-1 and ASME
  • Awareness of Industrial Automation Standards
  • Experience developing and managing effective relationships with a unionized workforce
  • Understanding, Development and Maintenance of Process Failure Mode Effects analysis
  • CMRP Designation
