Summer Student, Gordon Oakes Red Bear Student Centre

Primary Purpose: To assist in coordinating Fall programming aimed at supporting the success of Indigenous students at the University of Saskatchewan. This includes activities at the Gordon Oakes Red Bear Student Centre for Métis, First Nation and Inuit students. Student success is supported through personal support, group programming, cultural initiatives, events, and student engagement opportunities.

Nature of Work: The Summer Student positions report to the Director of the Gordon Oakes Red Bear Student Centre.

The Gordon Oakes Red Bear Student Centre is dedicated to Indigenous student academic and personal success and is committed to supporting Indigenous student transition, retention, and graduation by providing Indigenous undergraduate and graduate students with personal, social, and cultural supports through programs, services, and events. The Centre also works in collaboration with colleges/units and partners across campus to provide academic and personal supports to students.

Typical Duties or Accountabilities:

  • The student(s) will work in close collaboration with the Indigenous Student Services Manager and the Student Development Coordinator to coordinate and deliver the first year August welcome.
  • Assist with planning of the Fall programming.
  • Help create welcome packages for incoming students.
  • Assist in the coordination of cultural programming and events.
  • Assist in the coordination of our social media platforms.
  • Other assigned duties.

Education: Continuing University student studying in an undergraduate program.

Skills: Proven ability to work effectively within a team environment and independently; familiarity and experience with student-centered programming, support services and student life on campus; effective written and verbal communication skills. Intermediate skills in Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook email are required.

Salary: The starting salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
