The Opportunity - Student, Resident Assistant (part-time, temporary)

The Summer Resident Assistant is an integral member of our team and is often the first point of contact for all students and guests over the summer. The Summer Resident Assistant will perform a variety of general administrative and clerical functions. The incumbent will be required to take direction and work intuitively to support the day to day operations of the Residence Services Team, and also takes the security, safety, privacy, and wellbeing of the resident community seriously when going about questions, queries, and tasks.

NOTE: This is a temporary position from the end of April to the middle of August, 2025

Key Job Functions

Front Desk Operations

  1. Respond to all questions, inquiries, and comments in a timely and professional manner
  2. Work independently and take initiative to complete tasks and projects as assigned
  3. Assist with key audits, paperwork, office organization, and check-in/check-out procedures
  4. Coordinate distribution of mail
  5. Be familiar with Olds College grounds and resources, and the needs of conference guests
  6. Must keep private information of students confidential as well as front desk procedures, passwords, and data
  7. Must look through a safety and privacy lens when answering questions and queries that involve students, and when determining who is being let into the building
  8. Maintain an organized and clean workspace
  9. Take lead on organizing front desk engagement initiatives
  10. Assist the Conference Services team in supporting groups and visitors

Customer Service

  1. Treat clients, guests, employees, students, supervisor, and colleagues with courtesy and respect
  2. Practice active listening, be observant, and make appropriate referrals
  3. Dress, speak, and behave in an appropriate and professional manner
  4. Help to create and maintain a positive community environment
  5. Be visible and available to assist and be a resource to residence guests

Programming

  1. Plan, execute, and support residence-wide events to suit the needs and interest of students
  2. Create bulletin boards and other passive programs during specific times of the summer
  3. Promote and advertise events within residence and the broader college community. This includes use of the Olds College Residence social media pages and participating in Residence marketing campaigns
  4. Work collaboratively with departments outside of residence on supporting campus-wide events
  5. Assist the Residence Life Coordinators in planning Welcome Week and other programs

Requirements/Qualifications

  1. Must be an Olds College student prior to and/or immediately following their work period
  2. Outstanding time management skills
  3. Experience with using Google programs and general computer technical skills
  4. Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
  5. Able to maintain a professional demeanor and think critically under pressure or balancing competing priorities

Hours

  1. Hours of work may vary daily with between 15-25 hours of work per week
  2. Additional hours may be required at specific times for occasional, supplementary operations support
