Job description

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the Process Engineer - Environment, is responsible for assisting the monitoring of process control and maintenance activities, technical research, and project management related to plant process optimization and asset management programs.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reviews daily plant operations and optimizes process control performance.
  • Identifies trends and problems and researches and recommends solutions to improve performance and efficiencies in treatment processes.
  • Monitors maintenance practices to initiate improvements to extend the life cycle of equipment or identify cost efficiencies.
  • Manages projects related to the operation of the treatment process and equipment for the facilities.
  • Conducts research into new operational practices and equipment related to the treatment plants.
  • Conducts pilot testing of new equipment and processes to determine benefits and impacts of full-scale implementation.
  • Investigates, evaluates and implements hardware and software changes to the process control systems.
  • Assists the Division regarding plant process optimization and asset management programs.
  • Provides technical direction to staff.
  • Develops safety and operational procedures and recommends the need for appropriate training to ensure understanding and use of new techniques, procedures, and equipment.
  • Assists in the development of the operating and capital budgets.
  • Manual data entry into spreadsheets, databases, and other applications from various data sources (both digital and print).
  • Performs other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:

  • Must currently be enrolled in a university engineering program.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Must be highly motivated and be able to work well in a team environment.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must possess superior customer service skills.
  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Must be competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health & Safety Act.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • May be required to travel to various work locations and provide own transportation.
  • Must undergo a successful Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC).
