STUDENT - Labourer - Golf

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Supervisor – Golf Services, and the technical direction and guidance of the Leadhand Greenskeeper responsible for the general maintenance of the grounds.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Operates turf equipment (grass cutting), riding and push mower.
• Operates grass trimmers (motorized), rakes and shovels.
• Washes machinery and picks up garbage/litter.
• Performs miscellaneous light and heavy manual labour outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:

• Must be a secondary school graduate and enrolled at a college or university; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Previous turf/landscaping experience (i.e. grass cutting, sod laying, trimming, etc.).

Skills & Abilities:

• Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Must be highly motivated and able to work well in a team environment.
• Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
• Superior customer service skills and ability to deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner.
• Ability to work outdoors in adverse conditions.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Class “G2” Ontario Drivers Licence, or equivalent.
• Must meet the definition of a competent driver as defined by the Corporation.

Assets:

• Experience with operating mowers (riding or push, lawn tractors, etc.).
• Experience working on a golf course.
• Knowledge and experience with the game of golf.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

• Must be available for weekdays and weekends as required.
• Must remain a competent driver as defined by the Corporation.
• May be required to provide a successful driver’s abstract.
