About Us

Terracon Geotechnique is thrilled to invite motivated Environmental/Geoscience Technology students to join our team in the Fort McMurray area for full-time, hands-on roles. In this position, you’ll gain invaluable experience in laboratory testing, data entry, coordination, equipment calibration, and quality control. While your primary focus will be in the lab, you’ll also have the chance to participate in field testing, allowing you to develop essential safety and communication skills in a diverse work environment. Job Location: Fort McMurray

Pay Range: $25 - $27 per hour, depending on experience

Position Overview: Key Responsibilities

  • Perform geotechnical laboratory testing on soils and aggregates, including proctor tests, sieves, hydrometers, specific gravity, Atterberg limits, and compressive strength tests for concrete materials, ensuring compliance with ASTM and CSA standards.
  • Calibrate lab equipment and conduct preventative maintenance to ensure optimal performance.
  • Maintain a safe testing environment by adhering to safety protocols and ensuring tests are completed accurately and on time, with thorough documentation of results.
  • Gain valuable experience through training and participation in field-based projects, enhancing your practical skills and knowledge in environmental technology.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in Environmental Technology, Civil Engineering, Geoscience programs, or other related fields of study
  • Prior experience in a related role is an asset
  • Eager to learn and explore all facets of the industry
  • Adaptable and a collaborative team player
  • High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Effective time management and organizational skills, along with independent thinking, problem-solving, and analytical abilities
  • Strong commitment to workplace health and safety practices

Working Conditions, Schedule, and Physical Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada on an ongoing basis
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and at least 2 years of driving experience
  • High school diploma required
  • Physically able to perform laboratory tasks as needed
  • Successful completion of a Fit for Work assessment and Drug and Alcohol test
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Schedule may involve 12-hour shifts, including early morning, evening, and occasional full night shifts
