Description
Located out of our Cochrane office, the Intern, CEP Engineering is a member of the NGL Extraction Engineering team at the Cochrane Extraction Plant and is responsible for completing assigned projects at the plant site, in support of the overall operations of the plant. The Intern, CEP Engineering is expected to oversee the safe, environmentally sound, compliant, cost effective, and operationally successful development and execution of all matters relating to the assigned tasks and projects. In addition, the Intern, CEP Engineering is responsible for the stewardship of assigned tasks in support of the running plant.
Complete projects as assigned, ensuring all projects are executed safely, with minimal environmental impact, in compliance with all rules, regulations and standards, on budget, on time, operationally successful and in line with the business objectives. Manage all aspects of projects required to take concepts and ideas through to complete projects that contribute to the plant’s bottom line. Includes concepts and design generation, cost estimates, status reporting, construction management, equipment and project commissioning, and project signoffs. Projects are executed in accordance with Inter Pipeline’s PDI and other corporate standards unless variance authorization has been provided. Ensure compliance with the APEGA Professional Practice Management Plan. Prioritize and ensure all projects are economically justified with proper authorization including the commercial group. Contribute to plant long-term capital plans by preparing scopes and estimates, maintaining project forecasts, and identifying potential future projects. Support the ongoing development and improvement of Engineering and Technical Standards as well as equipment specifications. Ensure required projects are tracked and completed in Maximo through the MOC process. Create and update engineering drawings with drafting and document control as required for assigned projects.
Aid in analyzing, troubleshooting, and solving assigned problems and issues together with plant teams. Contribute to investigations into equipment failures or issues as assigned and help complete reports and recommendations on preventative measures. Interface with engineering, service, and vendor companies to obtain required information to support the issues at hand. Maintain vendor and industry contacts to support construction services for the plant and maintain a listing of contractors that have proven to be reliable for plant construction. Aid in generating concrete ways of improving plant efficiency and reliability. Interface with plant and corporate groups to obtain needed information and services and present results. Complete tasks as assigned in support of the overall operation of the plant. Assist as a technical resource in the safe and reliable operation and maintenance of the plant. Contribute to shutdown plans, overhaul plans, and preventative maintenance plans. Work with plant resources where possible to complete assigned tasks to save on third party costs.
Support plant employees by setting a positive tone for communication and collaboration within the department and with other departments. Advance the fundamentals of good project management to improve the knowledge at site and develop an appreciation at site for good project management practices. Assist other project team(s) as required to ensure project matters are handled appropriately and site needs are addressed. Develop over time through experience and training into an independent employee that can take on any project. Become comfortable with software systems that aid in the success of assigned projects. The Intern, CEP Engineering has enrollment in an accredited engineering degree program with preferred additional coursework related to project management. Typically, the Intern has completed the third year of their degree program.
This is a full-time role based at our Cochrane Extraction Plant beginning in May for a term of 16 months.
Mon-Friday, 40 hours per week.
