Our team in Canada is growing. We are recruiting a Part-Time Senior Structural Engineer to join our Global Consulting line in the Burlington office. This position offers the flexibility of either a casual or contract employment arrangement.

About the role:

  1. Prepare cost effective structural engineering designs from conceptual design to detail design, tender and construction in accordance with Canadian Codes and Standards.
  2. Perform analysis and design of steel structures and concrete foundations for industrial and infrastructure projects.
  3. Perform site visits and inspect existing structures. Perform evaluation and analysis of existing structures for modifications and additions and propose reinforcement solutions.
  4. Prepare material take-offs of steel and concrete.
  5. Complete tasks under minimal supervision ensuring that objectives of cost, quality and time are met.
  6. Supervise the work of designers on the project team.
  7. Work directly with drafting staff to produce detailed drawing packages.
  8. Liaise with client representatives and general contractors.
  9. Manage small projects primarily led by structural scope.
  10. Maintain and build upon client relationships.

About you:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in civil or Structural engineering from a recognized University. (Master’s degree would be considered an asset).
  2. Minimum of 10 – 15 yrs experience in the design of industrial and/or institutional type buildings.
  3. Solid experience in structural design and certification of various building types and heights, including lateral load analysis.
  4. Proficiency in design of steel structures, reinforced concrete structures, and various types of heavy concrete foundations for buildings and equipment. (Masonry and wood framed structural design experience would be considered an asset).
  5. Proficiency in application of Canadian Codes and Standards. (Proficiency in US and International Codes and Standards is an asset)
  6. Proficiency in structural engineering design software in one or more of STAAD.Pro, SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE, MathCAD, RISA, etc.
  7. Experience with AutoCAD, NavisWorks and Smart Plant would be considered an asset.
  8. Experienced in dealing directly with clients and contractors.
  9. Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and as part of a multidisciplinary group.
  10. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  11. Site inspection and reporting experience.
  12. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of products to prepare reports, specifications, presentations, and estimates.
  13. Commitment to technical excellence and client service.
