Our forward-thinking client is seeking to expand their technical team with a key hire: an Intermediate Structural/Civil Engineer. This role is integral to the company’s continued success, offering the opportunity to lead proposal development, mentor staff, and deliver top-tier engineering designs, while also overseeing project and construction management.
Supporting a growing team and business, this role will support with design, project and construction management services to the Light Rail Transit (LRT), Rail Systems, Utility and Industrial industries within Calgary, Edmonton, and across North America.
If you hold a Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, are a licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada and have experience with rail systems, overhead catenary, and power distribution, we want to hear from you! Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design Leadership: Lead the development of design documents, reports, specifications, and drawings, ensuring quality and compliance with codes and standards.
- Project and Construction Management: Oversee assigned projects, manage deliverables, costs, and collaborate across multiple disciplines including Architectural, Mechanical, and Electrical teams.
- Quality Assurance: Conduct field inspections and testing during design and construction to ensure compliance with design intent and specifications.
- Cost Estimation: Provide accurate cost estimates and resource assessments for projects.
- Proposal Development: Assist with the preparation of project proposals.
- Client Relations: Maintain and build relationships with clients, suppliers, associations, and government agencies, while fostering new business opportunities.
- Staff Development: Mentor and train engineering and technical staff.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
Qualifications:
- Licensed Professional Engineer in Canada
- Eligible for APEGA membership
- Available for occasional site-support and travel as required for project requirements
- Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle
Experience:
- Minimum 7 years of experience in structural / civil engineering
- Minimum of 3 years of overhead catenary systems (OCS) experience
- Preference will be given for knowledge and experience on Rail Systems, Overhead Catenary, Underground and Overhead Power Distribution Systems
Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to thrive in a team environment.
- Self-motivated with excellent time management, capable of handling multiple priorities.
- Experienced in project and construction management.
- Skilled in preparing plan and profile, assembly, and component drawings.
- Well-versed in engineering computations and structural analysis.
- Knowledgeable in structural analysis software (e.g., SAP 2000, STAAD).
- Capable of performing pole and foundation loading calculations, catenary tension analysis, and wire sag/rise evaluations.
- Proficient in MS Office and CAD software (AutoCAD and MicroStation preferred).
- Able to collaborate effectively with engineering and construction teams to meet project delivery and quality goals.
Base Salary: $85,000 – $120,000 per year

Remote Work:
- This position has the opportunity for a hybrid working model.
