Job description

POSITION TYPE TERM (May 5, 2025 – August 29, 2025), FULL-TIME

Our Streetscape Summer Team plays a key role in making Downtown a visually appealing and welcoming place. From planting and maintaining flower beds, to assisting with placemaking projects, to keeping public areas clean and inviting—team members contribute directly to enhancing the downtown experience. Reporting to the Public Realm Project Coordinator, the Streetscape Summer Team members will be making a valuable contribution to the visual appeal of our downtown. RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Play a key role in making Downtown a beautiful and welcoming place - this includes planting, maintaining, watering, weeding of flowers and vegetation in public spaces throughout the downtown area.
  • Contribute to ongoing projects that improve and beautify public spaces in downtown Winnipeg including the upkeep and surveying of seasonal installations, site furnishings, and infrastructure conditions.
  • Remove litter and debris on sidewalks, around bus shelters, and other public areas.
  • Other duties as assigned including event set up and take down and infrastructure installation.
  • Report any concerns and/or questions from BIZ Members or the public.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Solid interpersonal, verbal communication, and customer service skills.
  • Understanding of Safe Work procedures and practices.
  • Experience in the following areas is considered an asset: operating and maintaining small equipment, utility vehicles and tools, mapping, pressure washing, landscaping, plant care, spray painting, and environmental design.
  • Valid Class 5 Full Stage Driver’s License.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Outdoor work in all weather conditions; appropriate gear will be provided for safety.
  • Availability must include weekdays, weekends and occasional evenings.
  • Ability to stand or walk for prolonged periods and over uneven terrain.
  • Physically capable of performing the duties and responsibilities of the position including bending, reaching, crouching, equipment operation, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Due to grant criteria limitations through Urban Green Team, successful candidates must be 29 years of age or younger.
