Job description

POSITION TYPE TERM (April 28, 2025 – August 29, 2025), FULL-TIME, 35 HOURS/WEEK

Reporting to the Public Realm Project Coordinator, the Streetscape Summer Team Lead will work alongside the Streetscape Summer Team, providing coaching and leadership to the team and contributing to a vibrant and clean downtown Winnipeg through the continuous upkeep of public spaces. The Streetscape Summer Team Lead will provide essential support to the Public Realm department in the planning, coordination, and implementation of the annual planting program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with the planning and coordination of the annual flower program and Public Realm projects.
  • Track schedules and key milestones for Streetscape programs.
  • Coordinate internal and external resources for spring cleanup and planting programs.
  • Supervise, mentor and coach the Streetscape Team and provide direction on daily tasks.
  • Ensure staff are adhering to policy and procedures while on shift, especially regarding safety.
  • Act on non-complex employee relations issues, escalating to the manager where appropriate.
  • Play a key role in making Downtown a beautiful and welcoming place - this includes planting, maintaining, watering, weeding of flowers and vegetation in public spaces throughout the downtown area.
  • Remove litter and debris on sidewalks, around bus shelters, and other public areas.
  • Other duties as assigned including litter removal, event support and infrastructure installation.
  • Report any concerns and/or questions from BIZ Members or the public.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience supervising and leading teams.
  • Strong communication, team building, problem solving and leadership skills.
  • Solid interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Organizational and planning skills; must be able to coordinate work and resources with a high degree of independence.
  • Understanding of Safe Work procedures and practices.
  • Experience in the following areas is considered an asset: operating and maintaining small equipment, utility vehicles and tools, mapping, pressure washing, landscaping, plant care, spray painting, and environmental design.
  • Valid Class 5 Full Stage Driver’s License.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Outdoor work in all weather conditions; appropriate gear will be provided for safety.
  • Availability must include weekdays, weekends and occasional evenings.
  • Ability to stand or walk for prolonged periods and over uneven terrain.
  • Physically capable of performing the duties and responsibilities of the position including bending, reaching, crouching, equipment operation, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Due to grant criteria limitations through Urban Green Team, successful candidates must be 29 years of age or younger.
