Food for the Hungry (FH) Canada is a Christian not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting humanitarian response and sustainable community development in order to bring about long-term transformation for people living in poverty. Through community-led development and strong Canadian support, FH Canada strives to relieve all forms of poverty – physical, spiritual, social and personal – so that everyone can flourish.
FH Canada has been in operation since 1994 and is an independent member of the global Food for the Hungry network. We currently implement community development programs in 121 communities across seven countries — Ethiopia, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Bangladesh, Cambodia and Guatemala — through FH Association country offices. We also fund humanitarian projects and deliver assistance in FH global partner countries according to the current needs.
FH Canada comes to the end of a three-year rolling strategic plan in September 2025. We are seeking a consultant to guide the process of developing a new strategy that supports our goals to deepen the impact of programs, enable a robust organizational culture and increase financial strength.
To produce an actionable five-year strategic plan for the period from FY2026 – FY2030 (October 1, 2025 – September 30 2030).
The project will run from January 1st 2025 – September 15th, 2025 with a milestone of August 15th, 2025 for delivering a final strategic plan.
You don’t take a cookie cutter approach to strategic planning but employ innovative and creative approaches and depend on effective listening and discovery to produce a plan that energizes and inspires team members.
You have demonstrable experience (as a volunteer, employee or consultant) in guiding strategic planning processes that have been successfully implemented by organizations to leverage their advantages for growth, innovation and values-based operations.
You are a practical dreamer. Taking an approach with the end user in mind, you avoid jargon to produce a strategy plan that is easily understood by all stakeholders, providing a clear picture and achievable yet ambitious pathway to the desired destination.
You have the background and cultural competence to conduct meaningful consultations across diverse groups of stakeholders within Canada and an international network of colleagues and people served.
Familiarity with the current context of international cooperation and humanitarian response and experience working with Christian faith-based organizations are assets. Understanding of faith-informed perspectives on compassionate response to suffering is a requirement.
If you are interested in supporting FH Canada in charting a course to strengthen organizational culture and develop sustainable funding models for deeper impact in changing times, please submit a letter of interest to Musu Taylor-Lewis, President & CEO, FH Canada via our website: https://www.fhcanada.org/jobs
Your letter should include information about your experience with strategy planning, your creative process, expected activities, and an initial budget estimate or expected investment for the scope of work and deliverables as described above. Tell us what makes you stand out from others in the field.
