As an integral team member of the Deputy City Manager’s and Chief Financial Officer’s office, this position is responsible for ensuring the seamless delivery of Council and Committee reports for the Financial and Corporate Services Department.
What will you do?
- Lead discussions with management and setting the strategic direction of reports
- Collaborate with branch managers, program/section directors, and business partners in gathering and writing report content that is deemed highly sensitive, politically complex and/or strictly confidential
- Ensure all Financial and Corporate Services reports are written to meet corporate report guidelines
- Lead the development of presentations and associated materials, technical briefings and speaking notes
- Review of other department reports and flag linkages within the FCS department for internal review
- Identify areas of improvement, both qualitative and quantitative through the report process
- Liaise with other report writers, coordinators and other stakeholders and leadership teams, as appropriate, to identify and champion opportunities for improvement related to the timeliness, transparency, integration, accuracy
- Provide review and editing support for other department communications or strategic documents
- Support the department with a variety of program/project work, including conceptualizing, developing, reporting, monitoring and implementation
Qualifications:
- University Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Public Administration or a related field
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in a large diverse and complex organization
- Experience engaging, communicating, influencing and collaborating, both verbal and written, with all levels of staff
- Experience in developing and writing reports, based on highly complex operating, financial, legal and other technical information, and presenting such information in a manner that is easily consumed by the general public
Assets:
- Ability to research, analyze and synthesize complex data and information to write reports and draft recommendations that are understandable to a broad audience in a way that supports informed decision making
- Experience working in the public sector and understanding of Council and committee process
Skills required for success:
- Experience engaging, communicating, influencing and collaborating, both verbal and written, with all levels of staff and stakeholders
- Strong political acumen and demonstrated ability to analyze sensitive issues and respond to and advise senior leadership
- Knowledge and experience in project management, including process, the use of tools and templates, and managing multiple projects
- Ability to think strategically to address large, complex issues and to manage emergent projects
- Ability to anticipate, assess and readily adapt to changing priorities, maintain resilience in times of uncertainty and effectively work and lead in a changing environment under rigid timelines
- Strong ability to effectively interact, communicate, influence and collaborate with a variety of partners and stakeholders including senior management and staff at all levels
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Time management and organizational skills are essential for the success of this role
- Ability to work with a high degree of independent judgement

Work Environment:
- Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52.
- The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
