Job description

We are looking for a highly effective systems leader to lead and manage the new Sport England Place Partnership programme across Northamptonshire. This is an exciting opportunity to work with partners from across the two Place Partnerships and the wider system, to drive change, ensure accountability whilst coordinating community level co-production and interventions to engage communities in active lifestyles.

Northamptonshire Sport is a leading physical activity, health and wellbeing charity based in Northamptonshire, delivering national initiatives locally. We collaborate with local and national partners to change the system, influencing strategy, policy and approaches, tackling inequalities and supporting communities to change lives through widening participation in physical activity.

About the role

You will be responsible for leading and managing the Sport England Place Partnership programme across Northamptonshire. This is an exciting opportunity to work with partners from across the two Place Partnerships and the wider system, to drive change, ensure accountability whilst coordinating community level co-production and interventions to engage communities in active lifestyles.

About you

We are looking for a highly effective systems leader who:

  • Is committed to reducing inequalities, recognising some communities need more support, and understands the role physical activity can play in this.
  • Understands the relationship between physical activity and health.
  • Has experience of working collaboratively across sectors with a range of stakeholders, building positive relationships with people at all levels.
  • Understands and can work within a political environment.
  • Demonstrates strong strategic planning skills and the ability to manage complex programmes, develop strategy and manage budgets.
  • Has proven strong leadership skills, including the ability to lead in complexity, adapt as necessary and inspire distributed leadership.
  • Is able to generate a clear purpose and develop and implement a shared vision.
  • Understands the principles of place-based working to create the culture and environment for change.
  • Has excellent communication skills - writing, speaking and presenting to a variety of audiences, as well as being a good listener – inquisitive and curious.
  • Is a problem solver, critical thinker with a curious mindset, with the ability to capture and share ideas and learning.
  • Understands the value of evaluation and learning and can embed this within place-based work, across a number of communities and partners.
  • Is analytical and able to interpret and understand complex data and insight from a range of sources and use it to inform the work.
  • Is motivated and able to plan, organise and prioritise own workload to meet deadlines.
