Strategic Intelligence Consultant

Job Description:

We are seeking a strong strategic thinker, with analytical expertise, who is eager to work on a team committed to solving health care’s most pressing challenges. As part of Intermountain Health’s Strategy Office, the Strategic Intelligence Consultant will provide consultative support – with a focus on applying complex modeling and analysis – to provide strategic insights and intelligence to Enterprise leaders. The Strategic Intelligence Consultant will be an essential member of Intermountain’s Strategy Office, supporting the development of insightful, data-driven recommendations to guide Enterprise strategy. In this role, the Strategic Intelligence Consultant will focus on acquiring and analyzing information critical to effective strategic decision-making. Potential areas of involvement include market opportunity assessments, profitability assessments, and growth opportunity assessments. Projects will span business units, geographies, and service lines, and will be highly visible to key leaders across the Enterprise.

We will be hiring at multiple levels for this role based on the qualifications of the candidate pool.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Participate in strategic engagements to further Intermountain’s position as a leading health system
2. Develop dynamic models using complex and, at times, amorphous information to inform strategic development and implementation
3. Transform data into actionable insights to inform Intermountain strategy
4. Lead the development of initiatives to evaluate the fiscal, operational, and strategic viability of projects
5. Assess existing and new markets; lead analysis and strategic planning
6. Develop and evaluate capital, partnership, expansion, and other growth proposals
7. Coordinate with stakeholders and leaders across the Enterprise
8. Translate customer needs into dynamic models for decision-making
9. Act as a sounding board for the Strategy Office for data and information validation
10. Ensure the quality of deliverables and the accuracy of data and analyses
11. Develop and deliver communications in a visually compelling manner
12. Distill complex concepts into actionable insights for executives
13. Identify, design, and implement sustainable solutions to Enterprise challenges
14. Exhibit a high-level of maturity and professionalism in all interactions
15. Be able to communicate effectively with audiences at all levels of the Enterprise
16. Be a thought leader and culture carrier throughout the Enterprise

Candidates have historically joined the Strategy Office from a wide variety of backgrounds, and we encourage all who meet the qualifications to apply. Many candidates have joined after excelling in strategy, analytics, operations, or clinical roles within health care organizations, strategy roles outside of the healthcare industry, or directly from top MBA or MHA programs.

Minimum Requirements:

1. Master's Degree and three years of analytics or consulting experience or Bachelor's Degree with five years of analytics or consulting experience
2. Demonstrated success in the development, analysis, and interpretation of data and development of complex financial models
3. Strong quantitative skills and the ability to analyze and interpret financial data
4. Exceptional analytical and conceptual problem-solving skills
5. Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, analytical, and demanding work environment
6. A track record of successfully integrating into high-performing, interdisciplinary teams
7. Demonstrated ability to thrive in high-impact, demanding, and ambiguous work environments
8. Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
9. Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic team environment
10. Ability to articulate complex ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing
11. Demonstrated passion for continuous improvement

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Degree in an analytics related field such as statistics, mathematics, information systems, computer science, finance, economics, or an MBA with an emphasis in analytics
2. Exposure to value-based care financing and flow of funds
3. Background in consulting or analytics, with a focus on catering messages to executive audiences
4. Ability to use various programs or tools to gather data needed for analysis and modeling
5. General experience in health care or subject matter expertise in the job area (such as Actuarial, Clinical Programs, Clinical Services, Compliance, Finance/Accounting, Human Resources, Management Engineering, Quality, Revenue Cycle, Select Health / Insurance, Strategic Planning, Costing, Chargemaster, Budgeting, etc.)

Physical Requirements:

1. Interact with others requiring employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information.
2. Operate computers, telephones, office equipment, and manipulate paper requiring the ability to move fingers and hands.
3. See and read computer monitors and documents.
4. Remain sitting or standing for long periods of time to perform work on a computer, telephone, or other equipment.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

$50.22 - $77.53
