About Steer

Steer North America helps public, private, and non-profit clients drive the development of transportation, resources, places, and communities. We provide deep expertise to help clients achieve results and exceed their financial and strategic objectives. With offices across Canada, the USA, and Mexico, our people-centred approach and diverse experience enable us to work collaboratively with clients and their stakeholders. We tackle the most complex challenges, building prosperity, resilience, and equity across neighbourhoods, cities, and regions. We have also committed to successfully operate as a Net Zero Carbon company by 2025, participating in the UN's Global Compact.

About The Role

We are always looking for gifted, motivated graduates in North America to join our Global Graduate Scheme, working alongside your fellow graduates and highly experienced colleagues across North America, with exposure to teams in the UK, India, Italy, Colombia and more. If you are considering your future and are looking for somewhere to make a real, tangible difference, Steer has much to offer.

During our twelve-month Graduate Scheme, you will work together with our team of industry experts to address some of the most complex problems in the sectors we operate in. This includes:

  1. a program that provides you with the skills needed for a career in consultancy: industry knowledge, consultancy skills, technical training, project management and core business skills;
  2. a range of onboarding activities, including meeting your fellow graduates, personal development planning and learning more about Steer and our culture;
  3. mentoring from senior members who will work with you to develop your skills; and
  4. ‘buddy' support from a previous graduate who will help you settle into life at Steer.
Our company values for how we work together include: community, collaboration, trust and (most importantly) FUN!

Key Accountabilities

  • Participate on a multidisciplinary team to tackle complex transportation problems
  • Complete research, analyze data, generate and evaluate options to identify solutions for our clients
  • Support consultation on ideas with the client, stakeholders and the public
  • Perform quantitative analysis to support a range of transportation business cases, policy, and strategy projects using Excel, modelling, and analytical applications
  • Report writing to document analysis, evaluation and project outcomes
  • Support proposal/business development efforts
Upon hiring, all graduates will be designated to a business unit that aligns with their career interest and is reflective of the company needs. However, regardless of placement, all will have the ability to work across markets and divisions as they continue their journey at Steer.

Flexible Working

At Steer, we believe that a healthy work-life balance is paramount to long term success. In consulting, your work will ebb and flow based on client needs; we aim to keep our employee's typical work week to 40 hours (37.5 for Canada). We find that to optimize team performance, employee engagement and development, and community belonging, employees need to spend 60% of their time either in office or on-site with clients.

Requirements

  • A recent Bachelor's degree with all subjects considered, preferably with a quantitative or research element included. Bachelor's degrees in STEM, transportation or planning or a Master's degree in any subject would be an asset
  • Passionate about transportation and behavior change
  • Strong analytical, writing and communication skills
  • Highly motivated, proactive and a critical thinker
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to learn quickly and be willing to solve problems involving new situations
  • Transportation-related work or research experience is an asset
  • Experience in Adobe Creative Cloud, ArcGIS, Cube, TransCAD, Emme, R or Stata would be considered beneficial
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States/Canada without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future
