ArcelorMittal Dofasco is seeking top-caliber candidates with industrial manufacturing and/or construction work experience to join our Steelmaking Operations Department as a permanent Team Member.

About Steelmaking Operations:

As a Steelmaking Team Member, you will perform a variety of functions in a team environment directly related to the manufacturing of steel slabs. Duties will vary based on assigned placement within the Business Unit, and may include supporting Basic Oxygen Steelmaking Operations, Electric Arc Furnace Steelmaking Operations, Continuous Casting Operations, as well as Steelmaking Services groups.

Successful candidates will learn various roles in the area they have been hired and participate in job rotations to further develop their knowledge, skills and competence. There is the opportunity to grow in both job level and rate of pay with the development of new skills and competencies.

What to Expect:

  • 12-hour shifts, rotating days/nights and including weekends (to support 24x7 operations).
  • Team environment with a focus on Health and Safety.
  • Daily problem-solving, teamwork and autonomous work.
  • Continuous training on the job.
  • Virtual and hands-on job training.
  • Learning new tasks and skills such as rigging, operating mobile equipment, basic hand, power tools, lancing and torch cutting.
  • Ability to perform strenuous work under elevated temperatures.
  • Working in indoor/outdoor environments with exposure to high temperatures and working at heights.

Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate has at least 3 years of previous experience working in an industrial manufacturing and/or construction environment, who will be a reliable team member working 12 hour rotating shifts (days and nights), enjoys working in a fast-paced work environment and is committed to personal and collective health and safety and working collaboratively as part of a high functioning team to support daily production activities.

At ArcelorMittal Dofasco, there is nothing more important than the Health and Safety of our people and others whom we invite on our property. All personal protective equipment (PPE) including uniform, boots, hard hat, hearing protection, prescription safety glasses (if required) will be provided to all employees prior to starting.

Desired Skills/Experience:

  • 3+ years’ combined construction and/or manufacturing/industrial work experience.
  • Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or Ontario High School Equivalency Certificate (GED).
  • Able to work 12-hour shifts, rotating days/nights and including weekends.
  • Experience working and complying with safety procedures.
  • Experience working in physically demanding work conditions.
  • Experience and able to work in fast-paced, pressure-sensitive work environments and execute tasks under time constraints.
  • Proven mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
  • Able to work outside and with exposure to the elements.
  • Self-motivated; willing to take initiative and ownership of own learning and workspace.
  • Team oriented, experience working within a collaborative team environment.
  • Effective verbal, written and electronic communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize work demands.
  • Critical thinking skills with demonstrated ability to analyze situations and problem solve.
  • Ability to navigate and utilize computer systems.
  • Physically able to lift 50lbs and extensive physical movement of the body including climbing stairs, ladders and scaffolding, twisting, pulling, pushing and crouching, sitting, standing and walking for long periods.

Work Environment:

Plant environment 100% of the time. Required to wear standard personal protective equipment. Hearing protection is mandatory, heat and fire protective clothing is required for some roles. Exposed to acceptable levels of dust. Exposed to seasonal weather conditions.
