ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Steel Roller Operator, you will be responsible for operating heavy steel rollers to compact soil, gravel, and asphalt in road construction projects. You will work alongside a team of construction professionals to ensure that the roadway is properly compacted to meet project specifications. This role is essential to achieving the high-quality results that ensure the longevity and safety of the finished road infrastructure.

WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH

1. Operate steel rollers to achieve proper compaction of soil, gravel, and asphalt during road construction projects.
2. Work closely with the project team to ensure that the roller is used efficiently and safely on the job site.
3. Monitor the compaction process, making necessary adjustments to equipment and techniques to meet project specifications.
4. Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations while operating the equipment.
5. Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Additional Education Preferred: Certification in operating heavy equipment or relevant training programs.
Required Work Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience operating steel rollers or similar heavy equipment in road construction.
Required Training/Certifications: Valid driver's license; certification for operating heavy machinery.
Required Technical Skills: Proficiency in operating steel rollers and other related heavy equipment. Basic understanding of road construction, including compaction techniques and safety protocols.
Travel Requirements: Frequent travel between job sites within the City of Edmonton and surrounding areas.

Additional Requirements:

1. Inspect and maintain the steel roller to ensure it is functioning properly and safely before, during, and after use.
2. Monitor and adjust compaction processes to meet project specifications.
3. Work collaboratively with the project team to ensure smooth and safe operation.
4. Adhere to safety standards, ensuring safe operation of the steel roller at all times.
5. Demonstrate knowledge and compliance with safety protocols, project specifications, and operational procedures.
