The Opportunity:

The Senior Pension and Benefits Specialist will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of the company retirement and benefits programs and related processes across all business areas in Canada and US in accordance with plan provisions, legislation, policies and procedures.

The candidate will be responsible for the delivery of pension and benefits programs through coaching and education of key stakeholders, and the execution of regular administration of our programs and processes.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

  • Ongoing execution of administrative processes to provide an effective stakeholder experience, and to ensure organizational compliance with all relevant legislation and plans provisions. Ensure administration various programs by the HR Services Team is performed according to SLAs, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide consultation to key internal stakeholders on a broad range of pension and benefits programs, policies, and procedures. Provide guidance and timely responses to escalated inquiries.
  • Responsible for the monthly validation and analysis of contribution remittances and data interfaces for the Canadian DB and DC pension & savings programs.
  • Support all regulatory filings and annual compliance activities.
  • Support the execution of the company wellness strategy.
  • Provide in-depth and timely analysis and internal reporting on pension and benefits programs utilization. Identify trends, develop dashboards, and provide corresponding recommendations prepare and submit accurate and timely reports as required to ensure compliance with provincial/state and federal regulations, ensuring employee privacy guidelines are followed.
  • Support annual benefits enrolment activities including testing and participant’s communication.
  • Keep abreast of market, industry and legislative changes and requirements impacting pension and benefits programs, policies, and related administration.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain communication content, training, and educational materials in the company website.
  • Participate in various projects/activities as needed.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong knowledge of DB and DC pension and benefits relevant legislation. Knowledge of US federal and state regulations related to pension and benefits programs is considered an asset.
  • Ability to analyze data, understand cost impact to business and develop recommendations.
  • Demonstrated customer service focus with ability to forge partnerships within the business and external service providers.
  • Ability to work independently as well as a part of a cross border team in a collaborative manner.
  • Ability to manage information with accuracy, security, and confidentiality.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and a proven ability to work under pressure.
  • Effective communication and consulting skills with capability to adapt to a variety of audiences.
  • Demonstrated initiative and sound judgment for effective decision making.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • University degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive working experience with DB and DC Pension plans and Benefits administration.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment is preferred.
  • Work experience with HRIS system (SAP/Success Factors considered an asset).
  • CEBS and/or PPAC designation preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, Power Point and Microsoft Office programs as well as web-based applications.
