Your Opportunity

Two Permanent Full Time Positions

These roles focus on forward managing of Capital Power’s AESO power and transmission portfolio exposures from next day through to 5-years forward. These are key positions that require a firm understanding of AESO and surrounding region power market fundamentals and the ability to translate these fundamentals into portfolio strategy and ultimately trade execution to deliver the highest risk-adjusted return possible.

You will contribute to our team by:

  • Working towards delivering $500-$800M of annual AESO portfolio EBITDA, including incremental trading targets that range from $15M to $30M/year
  • Updating, running and maintaining AESO fundamental models to forecast power prices and positions
  • Creating and recommending portfolio strategy and positioning for the next ~18-months
  • Pricing of Origination deals
  • Executing the Long-Term Hedging Plan across the 2-10-year+ horizon
  • Aligning with our gas trading and related strategy to ensure optimal spark spread hedge value is delivered
  • Interfacing with the Real-Time desk/manager on asset operations and short-term strategies
  • Optimizing our long-term transmission assets into Mid-C through trading Mid-C markets and creating trading value through-time
  • Creating and trading Ancillary Services strategies
  • Running daily P&L models
  • Proactively communicating market and portfolio changes to leadership
  • Providing input into regulatory files such as AESO market redesign

What you will bring to the role:

Education:

  • Minimum a bachelor degree in engineering, economics, computer science, finance and/or mathematics
  • Preference towards CFA, FRM or other financial designation holders

Experience:

  • Ideally a minimum of 5-years of transactional and analytical experience, ideally closer to 10-years

Technical Skills:

  • Full proficiency with Excel
  • Preference towards individuals who have competency with data and coding, specifically working knowledge of Python, R, SQL, Snowflake, Data Bricks and otherwise

Working Conditions:

  • 4-days a week in the office, Mon – Thurs. May require 5-days a week in the office along with some odd hours and weekend work depending on the season and what is happening in the portfolio. No travel requirements

Additional Details:
