Job Summary
HOOPP’s Private Investment portfolio has grown to over $11 billion and includes investments throughout North America and Europe. The portfolios hold direct investments in private enterprises, as well as indirect investments through limited partnerships. The varied nature of the investment structures and geographic locations results in different reporting standards, income tax implications, and foreign exchange considerations. The person will share responsibilities for private equity and infrastructure portfolios.
What you will do:
Investment Accounting:
The focus of the Senior Analyst role is to ensure that the operations of the private equity and infrastructure portfolios are properly and accurately reflected in the private equity system and to serve as another point of contact for Investment Management staff. The Senior Analyst is also responsible for ensuring that the financial data transferred to Oracle is accurate and completed on a timely basis.
Ensure that accurate and complete information is recorded and updated in the private equity system. This would include set up of investment details, recording of daily cash transactions, and fair value changes.
Ensure that all acquisitions and dispositions of investments are recorded appropriately in the system and that relevant agreements and documentation are complete and up-to-date. Review legal agreements to understand structure in order to book new investments appropriately.
Obtain supporting documentation from General Partners, where required, to ensure distributions/contributions are accurately recorded in the system. Liaise with General Partners for any queries.
Respond to ad-hoc requests from Investment Management and other divisions within Finance and provide materials and analysis as requested.
Share responsibilities over the preparation of the daily hedge report.
Financial Reporting:
Share responsibilities for the monthly, quarterly and year-end financial reporting and preparation of working papers for the Private Investment & Infrastructure portfolios. The responsibilities include:
booking all operational activity for the month, quarter and year ends
performing reconciliation to cash
preparing various schedules supporting the monthly, quarterly and year-end close
preparing investment summary documents
monitoring financial statements received from General Partners and booking valuation changes
preparing the reconciliation to Oracle and uploading information to Oracle
review General Partners financial statements and assess movement in Net Asset Value and provide explanation for material changes
calculate investment returns of the portfolio and provide to Investment Reporting and Investment Management monthly for HOOPP fund performance reporting purposes
Compliance Monitoring:
Share responsibilities over compliance analysis and review investment activity on a monthly basis to ensure private equity and infrastructure portfolios are compliant with HOOPP's Investment Policies & Guidelines
Audit:
Assist with the external audit process. Prepare working papers and supporting documentation for financial statement notes and variance analysis. Respond to queries from auditors.
Support the Internal Audit and Internal Controls Financial Reporting processes, as required.
Work collaboratively with other Sr. Analyst, Investment Operations regarding audit confirmations, audit requests, annual GP questionnaire processes
Other:
Provide recommendations for process improvements such as automation of schedules, where appropriate.
Contribute to operational process improvements, engage in initiatives to automate and improve reporting from the Private Equity system and other automation processes, where needed.
Share responsibilities over completion of post month-end portfolio metrics reporting and various other reporting.
Assist other team members with daily, monthly, and year-end activities, as required during peak periods.

Published monthly reports that are relied on by Investment Management for investment decision making may be incorrect. This could potentially lead to incorrect investment decisions that may result in material financial loss.
Financial statements may be incorrect resulting in inaccurate board reporting and, in the case of year end audited financial statements, such errors can result in management letter points issued by HOOPP’s external auditors and escalated to HOOPP’s Audit and Finance committee.
Accountable for ensuring the integrity of the data in the private investment system as well as Oracle.
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance or related discipline
Accounting designation (CGA / CPA) is an asset
3 - 5 years similar operational experience in investment or fund accounting for Private Investments
Experience with Investran reporting system is a strong asset
Strong MS Office skills
Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
Must be extremely detail oriented and organized
Comfortable learning and using new technology and software
