Position Details:

Position Type: 3-Month contract
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM (40 hours per week)
Compensation: ($34 - $36/hr) for the contract
Work Type: Hybrid
Reports To: Executive Director, Internal Systems and Audit or their designate.


Job Summary
The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the accounting department and our organization's financial processes, ensuring adherence to legal requirements, and making certain that our accounting operations align with the organization's mission and financial objectives. This role includes preparing financial statements, ensuring compliance with accounting principles, and providing guidance to junior accounting staff. The Senior Accountant will play a key role in financial reporting, budgeting, and analysis to support the company’s financial health and strategic goals.


Primary Accountabilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day accounting operations including general ledger maintenance, journal entry postings, and reconciliations using Sage 300.
  • Perform month-end and year-end close procedures, including preparing journal entries, monthly account reconciliations, and accounting analysis including intercompany transactions for the corporate head office.
  • Perform monthly reconciliations – accounts reconciliation (balance sheet accounts and payroll accounts) and bank reconciliations.
  • Assist with preparing accurate, timely financial statements to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
  • Conduct financial analysis and provide insights to support decision-making.
  • Coordinate and assist in the preparation of cash flow.
  • Review accounting transactions for data integrity and compliance with GAAP. Mentor and provide guidance to junior accounting staff.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and provide necessary documentation for audits. Ensure compliance with internal controls and company policies. Assist with other ad hoc reports as needed.

Requirements

  • Expertise in financial reporting and compliance with GAAP.
  • Proficient in accounting software (Sage 300) and advanced Excel functions.
  • Knowledgeable in tax regulations and experienced in corporate tax preparation.
  • Strong analytical skills for data interpretation and problem-solving.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of conveying complex financial information to diverse audiences.
  • Proven leadership experience in managing and mentoring junior staff.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Adaptable to changes in regulations and financial technologies.
  • Committed to ethical practices and integrity in financial matters.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience.
  • Professional certification such as CPA designation required or working towards completion.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (Sage 300) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to handle high levels of pressure and stringent deadlines.
