About the Role:
Reporting to the Associate Director, Recreation & Community Engagement, the Coordinator provides operational and administrative management to a select portfolio of Brock University’s sport clubs with the goal of providing a participation stream that competes at a level between intramural and varsity sport programming. Working with student leaders and coaches from sport clubs' programs, the Coordinator will develop policies and procedures to govern programs in a safe and sustainable manner. The incumbent will also be the administrative lead for student sport and recreation leadership groups including the Student Athlete Leadership Council with the intent to grow student athlete leadership in equity, diversity, and inclusion student groups.
The Sport Clubs & Leadership Coordinator will:
- Manage the overall development, supervision, promotion, assessment and administration of the Sport Clubs program.
- Support the development and execution of the program strategy and philosophy with the direction of the Executive Director, Brock Sports and Recreation.
- Develop, implement and maintain the Sport Clubs Handbook outlining policies and procedures of the sport clubs program.
- Maintain accurate membership/registration records and information including the oversight of team member eligibility as required for participation purposes from specific sport governing bodies.
- Assist with the promotion and marketing efforts to ensure awareness and growth of the sport clubs program.
- Support student leadership and coaches of club programs in preparing reports related to each sport clubs team assigned, that summarizes relevant information including program information, funding, and student and community engagement.
- Support the facilitation of administrative support for tasks such as travel, expenses, contracts, etc.
- Manage and maintain partnerships with campus groups and external sport organizations affiliated with the sport clubs' program.
- Develop, implement, support and evaluate a comprehensive leadership development strategy and framework for student athlete sport and recreation leadership groups in conjunction with Brock Sports & Recreation staff.
- Develop a network of student sport and recreation leadership groups that supports equity, diversity and inclusion.
- Develop and lead ongoing training student leadership sessions (i.e., captains training, sport club executive training, etc.).
- Serve as an advisor and risk manager for all competitive club sport teams including oversight of sport clubs travel, insurance, competition contracts, student athlete code of conduct, and safety and emergency procedures.
- Coordinate the administration of sport specific summer camp programming including scheduling of sport specific camp curriculum programming both on and off campus.
- Support sport clubs programs in the development, execution and monitoring of assigned budgets.
Please note: This position requires occasional evenings and weekends availability and requires you to work on campus.
Key Skills and Experience:
- Undergraduate degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in sport organization and administration, preferably in a post-secondary environment.
- Coaching experience preferably in a post-secondary environment.
- Effective budgeting and record keeping skills and the ability to generate various reports.
- Ability to provide leadership and strategic direction in student-athlete development.
- Knowledge of the Brock University environment, rules, regulations, processes, administration, and FIPPA legislation.
- Knowledge of University student-athlete policies, and programs.
- Knowledge of University sports and related events.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate ideas and collaborate with others to achieve common outcomes.
- Ability to secure support from existing networks and to capitalize on new partnership opportunities within the organization.
- Strong discretion, and motivation skills.
- Flexible and responsive to changing needs in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and propose new approaches to improve outcomes.
Preferred or Asset Skills:
- First Aid & CPR certification.
- Mental Health First Aid training.
- Knowledge of Brock’s facilities, services, contracts, and policies around use of space.
- Knowledge of Workday software.
- Previous coaching experience in a competitive sport environment preferred.
Salary and Total Rewards:
- Job Grade K, Salary Scale ($57,400-98,400).
- Target Hiring Range: $57,400-$59,000.
- This is a permanent position that includes:
