We are seeking a motivated Licensed Practical Nurse with a dedication for delivering compassionate patient care to join our team in the Emergency department at Fort Nelson General Hospital.
Working within an interdisciplinary clinical framework in accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) Standards of Practice for a Licensed Practical Nurse, the LPN works closely with the care team in direct care activities such as assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating interventions, and coordinating health services for the Emergency Department patients. Participates in discharge and/or care planning, functions as a patient advocate, and teaches patients and their families about illness/injury and overall health promotion and wellness. Establishes, maintains, and enhances therapeutic relationships based on respect. Under a team-based model, provides care to patients across the lifespan, and their families, based on stable and/or predictable states of health by initiating and following established plans of care. Recognizes and responds to unexpected patient outcomes by communicating and collaborating with other members of the healthcare team. Documents care provided and response to incidents in accordance with established policies, procedures, and Emergency Department expectations. Consults, confers, and collaborates with other health care providers as needed.

Regional Emergency Department Education Program (REDEP)
The Northern Health Regional Emergency Department Education Program (REDEP) utilizes a standardized, evidence-informed online curriculum offered by Elsevier, called Emergency Nursing Orientation (ENO). REDEP combines Elsevier's ENO online curriculum with a skills/simulation lab and clinical practicum to prepare registered nurses to provide safe and competent emergency nursing care, at a novice level. There are 2 training positions available for 2024/2025. Northern Health provides placement support and funding for tuition, textbooks, and travel expenses for clinical placements, as required. Successful candidates may be required to complete pre-requisite courses through part-time distance education, on their own time, prior to assuming this position. Learners should expect to make a 4 month commitment for this education, which includes online and in-person learning. Additional study time, outside of scheduled hours, may be required to successfully complete the program. Flexibility for practicums is necessary. Prior experience on an acute care ward (i.e. medical/surgical) preferred. Current BLS certification within a year is mandatory prior to the skills/simulation. Preference for participants who have completed an electrocardiogram (ECG) course prior to beginning REDEP. Applicants must successfully complete the education program prior to working in the department. Upon successful completion of the education program, Northern Health requires an eighteen (18) month return of service in a regular position in the area of nursing applicable to the education program. Qualified applicants will be considered first for specialty positions. If there are no qualified applicants, training lines will be awarded to unqualified applicants and training will be provided.
