JOB SUMMARY:


The Specialist is accountable to provide subject matter expertise and administration of a specialized function on the Transmission Engineering Team. As a member of SaskPower’s management team, this position is responsible to act as a central point of contact in the management and administration of strategic and operational functions, providing expert advice and direction that aligns with departmental and corporate goals and objectives.

The Specialist will be expected to take a collaborative approach to providing technical support, training, and services to the rest of Transmission Engineering – including delivering training on CADD software, creating, maintaining and improving CADD standards and training materials, and implementing new software and software upgrades. The Specialist will be able to adapt to a changing technical environment and quickly learn new types of CADD software and technology with the ability to apply these learnings in new applications. Expertise in CADD software and systems such as AutoDesk, Vault, ElecDes, Inventor and/or Cyclone (PointCloud) combined with a strong background in geospatial information systems (GIS) and/or electrical drafting or design experience will be considered an asset.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Plan, research, develop, evaluate and implement processes, policies and procedures utilized for the development of strategies and business initiatives that address the organization’s requirements.
  2. Act as a subject matter expert in a specialized function to develop, implement, coach and assist management staff in the administration and interpretation of corporate policies; providing advice that is appropriate, practical and consistent with relevant legislation, regulations, laws and/or industry standards.
  3. Identify new business solutions and operational efficiencies, while providing recommendations which have a significant impact on SaskPower’s business operations and strategies.
  4. Lead and/or participate in cross-functional projects to provide functional expertise for corporate and departmental strategic planning initiatives.
  5. Represent the department and prepare and present material to internal and external audiences as required.
  6. Maintain knowledge of industry developments and best practices related to area of specialization and adapt them to SaskPower’s operational environment.
  7. Provide leadership and direction to project teams and/or assigned staff as required.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  1. Degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, Engineering, Diploma in CADD Technology, Engineering Technology or other related equivalent AND/OR;
  2. Related professional designation(s) and/or certification(s) AND/OR;
  3. 5 years of related experience.
  4. Team player with the ability to build and maintain strategic relationships both internal and external to SaskPower.
  5. Results oriented thinker, with the ability to manage and provide advice regarding complex and confidential issues with sensitivity and professionalism.
  6. Excellent analytical, research and problem-solving skills.
  7. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  8. Ability to work and manage in a changing environment.
  9. Excellent facilitation, project management and decision-making skills.
  10. Ability to foster a culture focused on safety, innovation and teamwork.
  11. Demonstrated skill in SaskPower’s competencies.
  12. Must have a continuing record of professional development.

A suitable combination of relevant education and experience may also be considered.
