About the role

Join the Strategy & Planning team where we lead the corporate strategy functions that support strategy development, corporate planning and prioritization, and performance measurement and reporting. In the role of Specialist, Initiatives (Climate Risk Management), you will support or lead key deliverables that are part of a designed plan to help CMHC achieve its climate-related risk and opportunity identification, measurement, oversight, and reporting requirements.

Please note this is a temporary position until June 2026.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead or contribute to tasks outlined by the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI) B-15 Climate Risk Management project implementation plan.
  • Engage stakeholders to achieve outcomes related to governance, strategy, training and awareness and risk management. Facilitate collaborative sessions and develop well-reasoned and cost-effective solutions to problems/ opportunities concerning our climate-risk management mission.
  • Develop climate expertise and contribute to ways to incorporate expertise into new and ongoing risk management and policy development activities, as well as corporate strategic planning.
  • Work with other project members and stakeholders to gain an understanding of the business drivers and assumptions that underpin our climate-related risk and document improvements to advance our company’s risk measurement and management maturity.
  • Participate in the core B-15 team to provide status updates, identify and report on plan issues/ project risks and recommend solutions to a cross-sector project steering committee.
  • Contribute to the development of climate-related inputs to the Corporate Plan, Annual Report, and other reporting.

What you should have:

  • An undergraduate degree in business, economics, or risk management.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of demonstrated experience in business planning or corporate risk management.
  • A demonstrated ability to apply problem-solving techniques and conduct data analysis and proven ability to think strategically and develop and implement strategic plans and projects.
  • An advanced ability to draft clear, and consistent documents/presentations/briefing notes on complex or novel topics within the areas of responsibility.
  • The ability to work autonomously in an ever-changing work environment while working in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • A solid understanding of the business context in which one is operating that informs planning and decision-making.

It would be great if you also had:

  • An understanding of climate-related risk management, measurement, and reporting practices.
  • An understanding of climate science, key concepts related to climate risk (e.g., physical and transition risks), related to the building and housing sectors.
  • An understanding of the financial sector policy directions on climate-related disclosures, scenario analysis as well as data and analytics.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian housing system, such as financing, residential development, risk mitigation and transfer tools, and the roles that governments play, including CMHC.
