Learning Disabilities Association of York-Simcoe (LDAYS) is looking for a Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) Alternative for Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board (SMCDSB).

Position Type: Virtual / In-Person Volunteer (SEAC meetings are held both in person and virtual)
Commitment: Once a Month (mainly on Wednesday) approximately 2 hours, from September to June.
Location: Virtual or In-Person at Board Room at the Catholic Education Centre, 46 Alliance Blvd., Barrie.
About Us:
The Learning Disabilities Association of York-Simcoe (LDAYS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to advocating for individuals with Learning Disabilities (LD). We provide leadership in LD research, education, and services to advance the full participation of children, youth, and adults with LD in society.
About SEAC:
Each school board in Ontario has a Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) composed of trustees and representatives from local organizations. These committees:
- Offer guidance on special education programs and services.
- Participate in reviewing plans and proposing changes that enhance the educational experience for students requiring special education.
Role Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and committed volunteer to serve as LDAYS’ SEAC Alternate Representative for the SMCDSB. This role involves attending meetings, advocating for students with Learning Disabilities, and keeping LDAYS informed about important developments within the school board.
Responsibilities:
- Attend all scheduled SEAC meetings when the LDAYS SEAC representative is unavailable.
- Familiarize yourself with the agendas and reports before meetings to ensure active participation.
- Advocate for and represent the viewpoints, interests, and concerns of students with learning disabilities.
- Ensure to communicate and stay in contact with LDAYS to understand key priorities and concerns.
- Be available to attend training sessions and LDAO SEAC Circular meetings as needed.
- Inform SEAC members about LDAYS initiatives, programs, and events.
- After meetings, provide updates to LDAYS about any relevant information, such as changes within the board, new programs, or any other developments.
- Positively represent LDAYS, contributing to discussions and providing input on the enhancement of special education plans and policies as needed.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Be a Canadian citizen.
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Reside within Simcoe County.
- Be of Catholic faith.
- Have attended, or have a dependent who attended, a Catholic school.
- Have reliable internet access for virtual meetings and the ability to travel to in-person meetings if needed.
Time Commitment:
- Attend approximately 10 meetings annually from September to June, on Wednesday nights.
- Dedicate about 2 hours per month, including meeting preparation, attendance, and follow-up activities.
