POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Globe and Mail is seeking an innovative and technically curious Solution Developer to join us in making an impact on the digital media evolution. Be a key part of our subscription team to drive technical delivery of high performance, reliable and scalable e-commerce systems related to customer account management and digital and print subscription for globeandmail.com.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Primary focus is application development and integration with a good understanding of application and integration architecture.
  • Transform business requirements into technical solutions that meet scale, performance, availability, and security goals.
  • Work closely with team lead and other developers to analyze & standardize technical architecture.
  • Build and test applications. Write unit and integration tests as part of technical deliverables for continuous integration.
  • Aim for defect-free programming, create and maintain quality code, provide support to QA team during testing cycles and post-production support, engage in peer code reviews.
  • Work closely with scrum master to contribute to project planning, estimations, and status updates.
  • Provide production support in resolving production issues.
  • Help make enhancements and troubleshoot.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3+ years of responsibilities in the following areas: software/web development, API integration, application delivery, design or architecture for web or service-oriented environments.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in developing web applications using web technologies: Java/J2SE, JDBC, AWS Cloud Services (EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, API Gateway, etc.).
  • 2+ years of experience in API Development & RESTful services using SpringBoot Framework and AWS Services.
  • 2+ years of database experience with RDBMS (Oracle preferred) and strong knowledge of SQL.
  • Experience with Event-driven architecture and with message brokers (e.g., Amazon MQ).
  • Knowledge of microservices architecture and design patterns, designing scalable and loosely-coupled microservices. Experience with UML diagrams.
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
  • Experience with one or more version control systems (GIT preferred).

IT WOULD BE GREAT IF YOU ALSO HAVE:

  • Knowledge of and working experience with networks, security, firewalls, load balancers, DNS, and other infrastructure components.
  • Experience in working with Agile development practices.
