Role Summary

TruGrid is looking for a Solar Technician to support the requirements of service, and ongoing maintenance and operations of Utility Scale Solar Systems throughout Ontario. This position will report to the O&M Operations Manager. This position is located on projects in the Toronto and Barrie, Ontario area. Working hours vary Monday through Friday. Overtime and weekend working hours may be required as needed.

Essential Job Function & Responsibilities

  1. Inspect and maintain Solar assets per industry standards in the field, at the site, and create supporting documentation through company reporting standards and processes which include citing issues, their severity and proposing recommendations.
  2. Review project drawings packages and manufacturer specifications and actual installed equipment to confirm assets meet design and manufacturer standards and are in a state of good repair.
  3. Test electrical devices to confirm specific operation is maintained as required.
  4. Maintain and follow industry accepted safety standards such as First Aid, Fall Arrest, electrical safety training (per authorized jurisdictional training partner), etc.
  5. As required, be present for, instruct, guide and provide access and safety orientations to subcontractors or fellow employees who provide specialized services (services such as protection and control, inverter technicians, SCADA analysis).
  6. Perform a wide range of technology tasks by operating computer for SEL relay event log downloads, inverter firmware updates, system analytics, SCADA and HMI requirements.
  7. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional organizations, attend company directed training.
  8. Provide excellent customer services to fellow employees, contracting partners and TruGrid end customers day in and day out.
  9. Operate company vehicle in a safe manner.
  10. Conduct site safety assessments and identify all safety hazards on the job site, properly generate and complete JHA/JSA, LOTO, and other safety-related documentation as per OSHA and site-specific requirements.
  11. Regular visits to regional office.
  12. Participate in Technician On-call rotation with availability on weekends and holidays to support site issues.
  13. Attending all meetings with customers and take a lead on action resolution.
  14. Reaching out to new potential customers.
  15. Contribute to O&M proposals from a technical point of view.
Required Qualifications

  1. High school diploma or equivalent education.
  2. 2-4 years of post-secondary education, preferably, in the renewable industry.
  3. Electrical Background including either Electrician or Electrical Technician Training.
  4. 1+ years’ equivalent experience in servicing electrical power equipment in the commercial or utility energy field and/or formal electrical training.
  5. Strong electrical mechanical day to day working aptitude and experience.
  6. Experience in renewables, preferred solar.
  7. Valid drivers’ license with the ability to operate a company vehicle.
  8. Wear personal protective equipment in a variety of settings.
  9. Excellent written and verbal communication.
  10. Basic Microsoft Suite knowledge.
