The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Software Product Owner. In this role, you will bridge the gap between our clients in the government sector and our development teams to ensure the successful delivery of cloud-based SaaS Payments solutions tailored to meet public sector needs. As the Product Owner, you will own the product backlog, define requirements, manage relationships with POS Device vendors, and prioritize features to align with customer expectations, regulatory requirements, and company goals.

This is an onsite position based out of our Edmonton office working Monday through Friday.

What You Will Do

  1. Product Vision and Strategy
    Collaborate with stakeholders to define the product vision, roadmap, and strategic goals for government-focused SaaS solutions.
  2. Ensure alignment with industry trends, customer feedback, and organizational objectives.
  3. Assess competitive POS offerings and identify differentiation opportunities.
  4. Product Development and Roadmap
    Collaborate with the Product Manager to create the POS product roadmap, focusing on POS hardware/software products, in-person payment workflows, and customer experience.
  5. Collaborate with stakeholders (business, technical, and operational) to define product features.
  6. Prioritize features based on value to customers, compliance with government regulations, operational efficiency and technical feasibility.
  7. Product Development
    Based on prioritized features / roadmap, maintain and refine the product backlog.
  8. Work closely with Agile development teams to ensure stories are well-defined, actionable, and ready for sprints.
  9. Partner with developers, designers, and QA teams to ensure the delivery of high-quality software that meets user needs and regulatory standards.
  10. Participate in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and sprint reviews to ensure alignment across teams.
  11. Perform UAT and present product demos.
  12. Stakeholder Engagement
    Serve as the primary point of contact for government clients, providing updates on product progress and gathering feedback.
  13. Communicate product goals, progress, and challenges to internal stakeholders and executive leadership.
  14. Manage POS Hardware and software vendors.
  15. Compliance and Security
    Stay updated on relevant government regulations, standards, and policies to ensure the product remains compliant specifically in Payments and POS world like (But not limited to) PCI, P2PE, SOC2, regional compliance.
  16. Stay informed about fraud prevention, tokenization, encryption, and other security measures.
  17. Get compliance features added in prioritized product backlog.
  18. Performance Tracking and Feedback
    Monitor product performance post-launch and gather client feedback for continuous improvement.
  19. Use data-driven insights to identify areas for optimization and additional development.

Requirements

What you Will Need to Succeed

  1. Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  2. 3+ years of experience in product management, preferably in payments or fintech.
  3. Familiarity with payment gateways, APIs, and cloud-based payment solutions.
  4. Knowledge of payment processing flows, tokenization, and fraud prevention.
  5. Strong understanding of Agile and Scrum methodologies.
  6. Strong data-driven decision-making skills using analytics tools like Tableau, Power BI, or Google Analytics.
  7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills to bridge the gap between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  8. Strong focus on merchant and customer needs to guide product decisions.
  9. Proven ability to translate business needs into actionable technical requirements.
  10. Familiarity with regulatory compliance in government software (e.g., tax, permitting, records management).
  11. Leadership and decision-making capabilities.
  12. Adaptability to changing market conditions and priorities.
  13. Collaboration and conflict-resolution skills.
  14. Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Preferred Certifications

  1. Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) or equivalent certification.
  2. Payments related / fintech certifications.
