Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Hybrid)

Hitachi Urban Rail Signaling is a global business line with over 5000 Engineers in multiple centers (Canada, UK, Singapore, Hong Kong, Middle East and more). With its core located in Toronto Canada with approximately 800 Engineers spanning System, Hardware, and Software engineering disciplines, plus specialty engineering such as Cyber, Data, AI (Artificial Intelligence), Safety and RAMT.

Position: Intermediate Software Analyst

As an Intermediate Software Analyst, your primary responsibilities are to contribute to the design, development, and testing of medium to high complexity components of operationally or safety-critical software systems. You work under the direction of a Senior Software Analyst or a Technical Specialist to develop expertise in one or more functional areas of a subsystem. You will design, analyze, develop and integrate changes to software applications, while adhering to the existing design patterns and development process for safety-critical software development.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Contributes modifications to the mission/function description, architectural & algorithms design and the refinement of functional and non-functional requirements.
  2. Designs, codes, debugs, writes test procedures and tests software code, chairs design reviews for components of medium complexity or criticality.
  3. Produces and executes integration tests on simulated or target hardware test benches.
  4. Produces, under supervision, detailed impact analyses of changes to multiple software components.
  5. Reviews code, test procedures and test results.
  6. Identifies the root cause and implements corrections for software defects.
  7. Performs engineering testing in the field and investigates problems in the field.
  8. Contributes to co-engineering activities with the Systems Engineering team to ensure system-software consistency and the right refinement of software components and compliance with the software architecture.
  9. Proposes solutions appropriate for the phase of the project and the duration of the planned activity.
Required Skills and Experience
  1. Minimum 3 years relevant working experience.
  2. University degree in Computer Sciences, Engineering or a closely related field.
  3. Intermediate level engineering analysis skills, able to diagnose issues based on field logs and correlate events to failures.
  4. Able to handle assignments within a medium to large scale software application.
  5. Able to propose and implement solutions aligned with the scope proposed in engineering impact analyses, and which follow established design patterns.
  6. Intermediate level experience in development of software in C++ language including templates, STL, MFC usage.
  7. Intermediate level experience on object-oriented programming, multithreading, socket programming, General Windows Programming.
  8. Able to program on various operating platforms (i.e. Windows, Linux, etc.).
  9. Knowledgeable of the software development processes.
  10. Able to quickly integrate with the team and work independently.
  11. Knowledge of software development environment (Microsoft Visual Studio, desktop simulator, target simulator etc.).
  12. Basic knowledge of railway signaling techniques including SelTrac CBTC.
  13. Experience in working within a team using Agile Methodologies.
  14. Working level knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite.
  15. Practical experience with source control, IDE and requirements management tools (e.g. Eclipse, Jira, Git, ClearCase, ClearQuest, Doors, etc.).
Preferred Skills and Experience
  1. Professional Engineer (PENG).
