Job Description
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Reporting to the Manager or designate, performs professional social work of advanced complexity. Assists clients and their families with complex psychosocial problems. Carries out a variety of case management and treatment functions. This work will emphasize extensive consultation with staff, the Ministry for Children and Families, and community agencies supporting children and families with acute and chronic health care conditions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training And Experience
- Master of Social Worker degree (MSW) from an accredited school of Social Work;
- Current registration with the British Columbia College of Social Workers;
- A minimum of two (2) years' of experience working in a paediatric/psychiatric setting or related field;
- Leadership and teaching experience, experience working with community agencies, working knowledge of acute health care environment, previous experience coordinating a program, and knowledge of relevant legislation such as the Mental Health Act.
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

- Ability to use initiative and exercise judgment.
- Training in clinical best-practice approaches to Eating Disorder Treatments.
- Ability to work independently on complex matters.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish priorities and organize workload.
- Ability to deal effectively with others in a complex, multi-agency environment.
- Ability to engage both children and adolescents.
