BridgeWay Family Centre (BridgeWay) is a non-profit agency providing free prenatal and early learning programs and supports to families and caregivers with children birth - 6 years of age, at over 40 locations in Brampton and Mississauga. Through provision of the Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program, BridgeWay offers services and supports to improve the health and well-being of pregnant women (up to 3 - 6 months postpartum) that are facing challenging life circumstances. Program goals include improving the health of mothers and infants, reducing the incidence of unhealthy birth weights, and the promotion and support of breastfeeding.
BridgeWay is currently looking for an MSW or BSW to:
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, including kindness, approachability, and non-judgmental attitude, while fostering positive working relationships with staff, Dieticians, Health Educators, and volunteers.
- Provide online and on-site, brief therapeutic modalities of counselling to help clients identify problems and possible solutions.
- Provide non-judgmental empathetic support.
- Recognize signs of trauma and its impact on pregnancy and parenting.
- Facilitate short sessions at GTIP programs as needed, to be planned with Program Manager in advance.
- Support mental health for prenatal and postpartum clients.
- Connect clients to prenatal care, mental health support, housing, financial aid, and parenting resources by coordinating with community partners.
- Support client autonomy and informed decision-making.
- Build trusting relationships with clients who may have experienced discrimination or systemic harm, while supporting them in strengthening their confidence and parenting capacity.
- Identify and respond to safety concerns (e.g., domestic violence, homelessness, substance use).
- Collaborate with child protection when necessary, while preserving the client’s dignity.
- Understand prenatal development, pregnancy-related health risks, and maternal mental health (e.g., perinatal mood disorders).
- Work as part of a team with BridgeWay staff, Dietitians and volunteers.
- Facilitate or support staff training sessions on mental health and related topics, in collaboration with the Program Manager.
- Attend team meetings as required to ensure alignment and collaboration across services.
- Submit monthly report to the CAPC/CPNP Program Manager detailing client numbers, workshops facilitated, and referrals made, while also promoting BridgeWay initiatives such as the Gurowka Bursary and connecting clients to relevant programs and services.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and uphold professional boundaries when interacting with clients.
- Demonstrate awareness and understanding of the challenges faced by vulnerable populations—including newcomers, low-income families, and individuals experiencing isolation—by providing support that is respectful, trauma-informed, and culturally sensitive.
- Document and store Social Work records in accordance with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers guidelines.
- Communicate incidents or potential areas of concern to the CAPC/CPNP Program Manager to ensure mutual problem solving between BridgeWay and the Social Worker.
- Complete additional progress reports or documentation as requested.
- Perform other duties as required to support program goals and organizational needs.
Qualifications
- B.S.W. or M.S.W. degree.
- Up to date registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.
- Up to date insurance as a member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers.
- Clear, current Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Minimum 1-2 years’ experience working with pregnant women/teens; children.
- Strong understanding of the factors affecting women and children in Peel, including poverty, domestic violence, homelessness, substance abuse and mental illness.
- Experience working with brief therapeutic modalities of counselling.
- Knowledge of the Child and Family Services Act.
- Knowledge of community resources in Peel.
- Ability to work in a multicultural setting.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary care teams.
- Ability to work independently.
- Demonstrated skill in group work and preparation/facilitation of formal presentations.
- Ability to travel to any work site as scheduled.
Hours: 20 hours per week, some nights and Saturdays.
Salary: $45.00 per hour.
Location: Mississauga, Brampton, online.
