Job description

Social Worker, Youth Employment Connections Program

Location: Edmonton, AB

Type: Full Time

Closing Date: March 28, 2025

At Prospect, we value the diversity of people. Diversity at Prospect means a workplace where individual differences are recognized and appreciated, respected and responded to in ways that fully develop and utilize each person’s talents and strengths.

Prospect helps people get jobs. We’re a not-for-profit and registered charity, so while the bottom line can’t be ignored, it’s not our priority. Clients are.

We are seeking an experienced Social Worker to provide crisis management and social support, and coordinate services and resources that will help people succeed. Our youth employment service engages at-risk young people through a multi-dimensional program that includes skill development, employment preparation, and connection to jobs. As our Social Worker, you will be committed to the success of each youth and will utilize a strength based, trauma informed, and youth centric approach to create an inclusive, supportive, and positive experience for all.

The qualities you will bring to the position include:

  • Person centric and flexible with appetite for problem solving, engaging, and motivating others.
  • Highly collaborative with history of engaging stakeholders and building productive relationships across a wide range of team members, community providers, and families.
  • Success focused with an unwavering commitment of ensuring young people are supported to achieve their goals and realize success.
  • Highly organized and engaged with the ability to manage multiple priorities, pivot directions as needed, respond to immediate need, and work in a high paced, dynamic environment.

What will you do?

As our Social Worker for this program, you will help coordinate the services youth need to realize success in our program and with employment. As a highly collaborative individual, you will build exceptionally strong relationships with community stakeholders, resources, and most of all, youth.

This will include helping youth build support networks and connect to applicable communities, such as Elders or other cultural supports, and create mentorship and leadership opportunities among youth. You will recognize the value of lived experience and will maximize youth engagement and feedback to ensure relevant and highly effective service delivery.

You will help youth coordinate the resources they need to start employment and achieve employment success long term, and will provide crisis counselling and intervention across the program.

You will recognize the significant developmental phase between adolescence and adulthood and will employ positive youth development practices to ensure a youth centric and youth driven approach. As a team player, you will provide support across services, including participating in skill building and career development activities, and fostering youth engagement strategies. This will include supporting team members with using trauma informed approaches and youth driven practices.

This project is highly flexible and will be delivered at our location, in the community, and virtually. You will be responsive to individual situations and will employ a flexible working model that will include some weekend and evening programming.

What does it take to do this job?

  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree in Social Work or higher.
  • Registered or eligible for registration within a respective post-secondary institution.
  • 3+ years' experience supporting clients in a clinical or community setting. Working with youth would be considered a significant asset.
  • Highly knowledgeable in a strength based, trauma informed and youth centric approach.
  • Able to make professional evaluations, decisions, and recommendations for support planning and implementation.
