Position: Social Media & Marketing Coordinator
Reports to: President, Niagara River Lions

Overview:
The Social Media and Marketing Coordinator will play a key role in shaping the digital presence and brand identity of the Niagara River Lions. This position is responsible for creating and executing social media campaigns, developing marketing strategies, and supporting the team’s overall marketing objectives. The ideal candidate will have a passion for basketball, creative flair, and a strong understanding of digital marketing trends. This is an exciting opportunity to engage with fans and build a loyal digital following.
Key Responsibilities:
Social Media Management:
- Create, manage, and execute content across all social media platforms (Instagram, X, Facebook, TikTok, etc.) following brand guidelines.
- Develop and implement a social media content calendar to align with the team’s marketing initiatives, partnerships, events, and games.
- Work closely with graphic designer and content creators to plan engaging, on-brand content, including graphics, videos, game highlights, and team news.
- Monitor social media channels for fan interactions and comments, ensuring timely responses to messages and comments.
- Analyze social media metrics and adjust strategies based on engagement insights and trends.
- Actively monitor social media trends, best practices and opportunities.
- Capture and create original content during home games, team practices, and other events.
- Edit and post timely updates during live events, games, and news announcements.
Marketing Strategy & Campaigns:
- Help develop and implement promotional campaigns, both digital and in-person, to promote games, events, and merchandise.
- Send targeted marketing text messages through team’s text platform.
- Assist in the creation of email marketing campaigns to engage fans and encourage ticket sales, merchandise purchases, and event participation.
- Support cross-departmental marketing efforts, including sponsorship activations, community outreach, and team promotions.
- Assist with the development of print and digital marketing materials such as flyers, posters, and ads.
- Manage media buys and relationships with media partners within budget.
Fan Engagement & Community Outreach:
- Build and maintain a strong online community by interacting with fans, responding to comments, and sharing user-generated content.
- Organize online contests, giveaways, and polls to engage fans and increase social media following.
Collaboration and Reporting:
- Collaborate with all departments to ensure brand consistency and messaging alignment.
- Monitor and report on the effectiveness of marketing campaigns, adjusting tactics as necessary.
- Assist in creating monthly performance reports for social media engagement, campaign success, and overall marketing goals.
Press Releases & Media Relations:
- Write and distribute press releases about team news, player updates, game previews, event announcements, and other relevant content.
- Coordinate with media outlets, journalists, and influencers to ensure timely coverage of the team’s activities.
- Assist with media inquiries and organize interviews with players and coaches when necessary.
- Maintain a press kit and media contacts list.
Website Management:
- Oversee and update the team’s official website with the latest news, game schedules, player bios, and marketing materials.
- Ensure the website is user-friendly, engaging, and optimized for search engines.
- Collaborate with design and development teams to implement new features and improve user experience.
- Update news, event information, and sponsor details in a timely manner.
Administrative Support:
- Manage all game day and non-game day photos by sorting and tagging.
- Maintain an organized and up-to-date database of all marketing material and graphics.
- Ensure all marketing and communications projects meet deadlines, budgets, and quality standards.
- Other duties as reasonably assigned by the President.
Qualifications:
- An undergraduate degree or diploma in communications or marketing is preferred.
- Creative aptitude for design.
- Demonstrated experience in social media content development and management.
- A passion for basketball and knowledge of basketball terminology.
- In-depth knowledge of customer service best practices and execution.
- Excellent writing skills including grammar, punctuation, and creativity.
- An eye for detail.
- Ability to come up with creative and engaging captions, ideas, and marketing strategies.
