Social Media Lead - McMaster Job Posting
Reporting to the Associate Director, Content, the Social Media Lead will build the University's reputation through McMaster’s core social media platforms. This position is responsible for planning the implementation of proactive, strategic communications, with specific emphasis on digital channels. The Social Media Lead is a dynamic and experienced communicator, responsible for managing social media platforms on behalf of the University, including LinkedIn, TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, and X (Twitter). The Social Media Lead works with a variety of partners across the university to bring McMaster’s story to life through original content and reimagined materials from contributors.
Accountabilities:
- Develop, implement and maintain efficient and effective University communications strategies related to social media.
- Plan and evaluate McMaster's communications as it relates to social media.
- Manage and supervise staff, including student content creators.
- Plan social media campaigns and presence in social networking sites.
- Support the Associate Director, Content in refining the University’s social media strategy and lead implementation.
- Create branded and accessible graphics for digital platforms as needed.
- Work in a complex environment with multiple functions including examining, reviewing and assessing long-term goals and immediate needs for communications.
- Build and execute effective cross-team social media strategies.
- Direct, supervise, hire and performance manage workplace students.
- Manage human and physical resources.
- Supervise the editorial content of the official University social media platforms.
- Identify emerging social media trends and tools.
- Monitor the impact of social media and digital programs.
- Support issues management for the University and oversee social media monitoring strategies.
- Manage and grow McMaster’s online communities.
Qualifications:
Education
- A university degree (A McMaster degree is an Asset).
Experience
- A strategic social media professional with 3-5 years relevant experience.
Knowledge/Skills
- Social and digital media platform knowledge.
- Proven technical experience managing digital tools.
- Demonstrated success in strategic digital communications.
- Understanding of new media trends and evolving social media ecosystem.
- Exceptional research and writing skills.
- Excellent oral communications skills.
- Proven ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Sound judgement and independent decision-making abilities.
- Ability to lead, supervise and direct staff.
- Strong management and time management skills.
