Position: Full-Time Position | Winnipeg or Thompson, MB

Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak Inc. is seeking an organized, motivated individual to work under the supervision of the Communications Officer. The successful incumbent will be responsible for providing social media support to the Communications Department, ensuring the message for MKO remains consistent and provides our 26 Nations with up-to-date information on the work being done on their behalf.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provides technical and administrative support to the communications department.
  • Supports and develops original engaging content for social media platforms.
  • Tracks, monitors and follows up for quarterly and annual reports.
  • Attends events and captures photos and videos of various events.
  • Writes content to accompany photo/video posts.
  • Creates and edits video and photo content.
  • Maintains a consistent brand voice across different social media channels.
  • Collaborates with various departments to create a social media calendar that includes important events.
  • Monitors social media channels for industry trends.
  • Schedules social media content through Meta, etc.
  • Interacts with users and responds to social media messages, inquiries, and comments.
  • Reviews analytics and collaborates with the Communications Officer to create reports.
  • Assists in the development and management of a social media strategy.
  • Experience using social media management tools (Meta, YouTube, X, Instagram, AI).
  • Experience with Canva, Photoshop or equivalent digital media editing tools.
  • Assists in prepping PowerPoint presentations for use in assemblies.
  • Assists in hosting press conferences, virtual press conferences, etc.
  • Maintains a shared drive with content and photos.
  • Assists in the preparation of the Annual report.
  • Ability to travel to events and communities.
  • Must maintain a strict adherence to MKO policies regarding the handling of sensitive and confidential information at all times.
  • Assists other team members and carries out other duties as needed and assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of social media content creation experience in a business setting.
  • Post Secondary education in communications, digital marketing or a related field preferred.
  • Ability to set priorities, handle multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrates strong initiative with the ability to work independently while functioning as part of a team.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, Internet, E-mail and other business-related computer software is required.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and follow through.
  • A sensitivity and understanding of culture, language and issues relevant to First Nation communities.
  • Advanced organizational and time management skills including the ability to manage multiple priorities while working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships and work with a variety of people, groups, and organizations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Canva, Meta, YouTube, X, Instagram, etc.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s licence and be willing to travel.
  • Must be able to obtain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), a satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check and a satisfactory Adult Abuse Registry Check upon hiring.

Salary: Dependent upon qualifications and experience.
