Social Media and Community Engagement Manager

About Us: PAW is one of Atlantic Canada’s largest non-profit animal rescue shelters, taking in over one thousand animals a year. We are committed to encouraging and delivering a positive impact on animal care by continuously improving high-quality services, resources, education, and community programs.

Job Overview: We are seeking a dynamic Social Media & Community Engagement Manager to continue to enhance our presence in the community and online. This role focuses on managing our social media platforms, donor relations, coordinating offsite adoption and fundraising events, and developing strategies to increase community involvement and support for our mission. This role will collaborate closely with multiple departments to promote our mission and engage with various publics, all while maintaining the organization’s brand and mission. This role will require flexibility to work both weekends and evenings as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Social Media Management:
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive social media strategy to increase our visibility, engagement, and support across multiple platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn.
    • Create and schedule regular, compelling content that promotes our programs, success stories, urgent needs, and events.
    • Liaise with the Director of Development to incorporate marketing strategy goals and objectives into the content development.
    • Monitor social media channels for follower interaction and engage in conversations to boost community involvement and support.
    • Analyze social media performance and adjust strategies as needed.
    • Creates/assists in the creation of written, video, and photo content for all pages and groups, moderating and responding to social media messages.
    • Maintains a unified voice across all social platforms.
  2. Event Coordination:
    • Assist with planning, coordination, and execution of offsite adoption events, shelter programs and fundraising initiatives.
    • Work closely with Director of Development to implement event strategies as it relates to the event demographic, capturing content and key objectives.
    • Manage PAW Boutique orders, inventory updates, store promotions, community pop-ups and communication.
    • Manage event promotions through social media and other marketing channels.
  3. Community Engagement:
    • Develop and maintain partnerships with local businesses, schools, and other organizations to promote our mission and expand our reach.
    • Represent the shelter at community events and engage with the public to increase awareness and support.
    • Coordinates, creates, designs, and edits the quarterly PAW e-newsletter, in addition to other e-blasts as needed.
    • Works with Director to create, execute and manage overall communication plan to promote all facets of the organization, including fundraising, community outreach, adoptions and other programs and services.
    • Ensure donors experience high quality interactions with PAW to foster long term engagement and support.
  4. Reporting:
    • Prepare regular reports on community event outcomes, social media metrics, and other engagement activities to share with management and stakeholders.

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Create and maintain event and social media calendars.
  • Professionally represent the mission, vision, and values of PAW.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree required. Bachelor’s degree in marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or related field, recommended.
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal communications skills, to include enjoyment of and confidence with the public.
  • Proven experience in social media management and content creation.
  • Experience in event planning and management.
  • Experience with Canva or Photoshop is an asset.
  • Strong verbal & written communication skills in both English & French.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Highly organized with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Positive attitude and professional demeanor.
  • Must possess a sense of urgency.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $19.00-$21.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
