Position Overview

At BELFOR, the Skilled Labourer plays a vital role in supporting construction and restoration projects by performing a diverse range of tasks. This includes executing light to medium repairs, demolition, general cleaning, and assisting tradespeople to ensure projects are completed efficiently and to the highest standards.

What You'll Do

  • Carry out light to medium repairs, demolition, and general cleaning tasks as required;
  • Cut, measure, and install job-related materials in accordance with the scope of work;
  • Safely operate hand and power tools, ensuring proper use and maintenance;
  • Assist Journeyman and Apprentice tradespeople, ensuring work aligns with measurements, specifications, drawings, and plans;
  • Proactively communicate job site conditions and any concerns affecting project completion to the appropriate personnel;
  • Participate in activities such as vehicle safety inspections, maintaining clean and serviceable vehicles, constructing polyethylene enclosures, emergency board-ups, debris removal, and equipment maintenance, as required;
  • Provide excellent customer service, demonstrating attention to detail and safeguarding clients' property and information;
  • Assist with water/flood and contents duties as required;
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures, participating in safety training and demonstrating an understanding of safety principles and practices;
  • Ensure a safe and compliant work environment by conducting hazard assessments, maintaining organized and hazard-free job sites, and ensuring proper use, maintenance, and storage of tools, equipment, and PPE. Promptly report and document unsafe conditions or incidents, actively participate in safety training and inspections, and support organizational safety initiatives as directed by the Health and Safety Department;
  • Comply with all BELFOR policies and procedures, as well as legislative requirements.

What You Bring

  • High school Diploma/GED;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite;
  • Understanding of customer service principles and practices;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a high level of professionalism;
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize a diversified workload and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment;
  • Ability to work independently or as a team, as required;
  • Attention to detail and a keen sense of safeguarding other people’s property and information;
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle per BELFOR's safety standards.

Nice to Have

  • 1+ years of experience within the construction, restoration, or insurance industry;
  • Forklift certification.

  • Comprehensive training of BELFOR internal processes, procedures, systems, and equipment;

Working Conditions

  • Due to the nature of our business, this position will work normal business hours but may be required to work in the evenings, on-call, or outside normal working hours;
  • Perform tasks requiring mobility in tight or confined spaces, sustained physical activity (standing, lifting, walking, bending, kneeling), and working at heights over 5 feet as required;
  • Periodic travel may be required.
