SITE FOREMAN

Summary
Reporting to the Superintendent, the Site Foreman is accountable for managing crews for field operations from initial project planning to completion. This person is responsible for assisting with site management of the project and all project activities, including the supervision of self-performed and subcontracted construction work, and focuses on managing the execution of the work by utilizing and leveraging the team’s experience. This includes ensuring that the project is built on time, within budget, and according to company policies and procedures. The Site Foreman assists the Superintendent in managing, directing, and mentoring all direct reports and field personnel, and possesses comprehensive knowledge of the project management lifecycle. The Site Foreman plays a strategic role in the constructability of the project through their continuous and active review of all project documentation, activities, progress, etc.; seeking out potential for risk and opportunity and implementing the required measures to correctly address and resolve issues.
Responsibilities
- Work with the Site Superintendent and Project Manager, to manage schedule, trades, production and quality on commercial and multi-family projects.
- Supervise, train, and mentor crew personnel, including direct and indirect reports.
- Effectively communicate with own forces and trades and ensure that performance, productivity, quality, and safety requirements are met.
- Advise Site Superintendent Project Manager of potential problems, work interferences, schedule difficulties, etc.
- Assist the Superintendent to identify and generate requests for information.
- Support the effective site communication and change documentation at the site level.
- Assist the Superintendent in planning, organizing and managing all site construction manpower and materials, including
site layout and setup.
- Assist the Superintendent to conduct and/or oversee weekly safety meetings, weekly site inspections and safety
orientations for all new employees on site.
- Assist the Superintendent with completion of required documentation, including: superintendent’s daily log, safety
documentation, timesheets, invoices, labour quantities, packing slips, purchase orders, and site photos.
- Assist the Superintendent to monitor productivities throughout the project life cycle for potential opportunities and losses.
Make corrections to maximize gains and mitigate against losses.
- Manage subcontractor relationships within assigned projects to maintain timelines and scope of work, and meet contact
obligations.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of resource allocation and planning and assist with three-week lookahead schedules.
- Monitor and executes the project construction plan and schedule.
- Complete and maintain documentation requirements and ensures the same of subtrades.
Requirements
- Journeyperson Carpenter Certification is preferred (or equivalent experience).
- 3+ years of progressive field supervisor experience required. Depending upon the project size, scope, and complexity the years of experience may vary.
- Zoom boom and/or skid steer ticket / experience for material handling and deliveries is an asset.
- Knowledge of construction industry and company operations, including building materials, construction specifications, and methods and procedures.
- Understanding of project scope and ability to apply basic engineering principles to resolve constructability challenges.
- Understanding of project schedules and ability to identify the critical path.
- Knowledge of safety and environmental principles/procedures/legislation.
- Ability to lead and run effective site meetings with client, consultants, trades, own forces work, and internal employees.
- Demonstrated conflict-resolution skills, problem-solving abilities, and professional judgment.
- Proficient with MS Office Suite, scheduling platforms and CAD software is an asset.
